@@emailyclake1706 Quite a few reasons actually: - As my dad is the Australian master of aircooled VW's, the thought of an engine conversion never crossed my mind when he and his team have aircooled Beetles producing over 500rwhp, running 9 second 1/4 mile passes and breaking track records at the majority of events they attend. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKGknouBh52rgM0 kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6ennoWbo6d5rac kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4O9mGOchL-an7M - Being a VW, I found it more exciting to increase the power output of an original by over 400% reliably while still being able to drive the car daily. - By staying aircooled, the car remains light. The addition of watercooling, pumps, radiatiors, fans etc.. would've added to the complexity and weight of the car, so now more power is required to achieve the same acceleration as an aircooled VW. For example the car was able to achieve a 1/4 mile time of 11.1 @123mph with just 256hp. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKXCmnSNibmsatk - By researching where the point of failures are when pushing aircooled engines to the limit, we are able to build better and more reliable engines. - By learning how to tune a turbocharged aircooled VW engine from scratch, I now know how to tune EFI reliably. EFI tuning of watercooled engines is now a breeze as there are less variables to account for compared to air cooled tuning. Maybe one day I'll drop in 600+hp worth of Tesla motors, but for now it's far more exciting to see what can be extracted from the original engine!
