Hello. This is me playing at my high school's talent show with my amazing PRS SE Paul Allender guitar. I've only been playing for 1.5 years, so don't say that I suck. Have a most excellent day, everyone.

How many guitar players does it take to change a light bulb? Just one to do it but as many as you can find to say... "I could do it better." The young man's demonstrating very strong technique. His timing is clean and consistent throughout. He clearly has a very good teacher, one who's taught him how to get the most out of his practice time. Once this guy has a couple years of regular gigging under his belt I'd pay cash money to see him.

He probably trained himself. From what I've seen, guitarists who train themselves are usually the best and learn faster. Chuck from Death taught himself, and he's crowned Father of Death Metal.

Conflict TV I do think this kid can play! But picking few examples from the pool of millions don't really count. There's more people that can play and got teached and actually the ones that got teached are indeed much better. (comparing is for retards. music is about indivitiuality, not competition). I have 2 students but i don't find myself as "teacher"... but i do know lot of techniques, tricks and some theory. I learned on my own but occasionally my older brother has helped me develop myself... it's not about do you get teached or do you learn it by yourself... it is about PRACTISING!!! figuring out music! Many people spend their time arguing (me on this hand) and not playing... playing makes you better and playing more with variety makes you more open minded musically...

greg raines I meant generally guitarists who teach themselves are good. I know there are many guitarists out there who took lessons, but I know many, such as Chuck Schuldiner, Alexi Laiho and many others were decently young when they bought their first guitars, and then taught themselves to play (like literally taught themselves. No KZbin or shit (because they didn't have KZbin)).

Very nice! Good form. You clearly have a good, high paced guitar teacher and it seems you have put in a lot of practice (yet its still hard to believe that you managed to do all this within 1.5 years). But if i may politely critique, although it was a wonderful showcase of technique i thought that it lacked soul and logical musical progression. You got all the tricks in the bag: tapping, pick sweeps, palm mutes, pulloffs, hammer ons, etc, but unless you arrange them in a melodic way, you produce a piece that sounds impressive yet bland and tasteless. Guitar soloing is not all about how fast you can play random licks. Learning scales can help a lot. My god... how many years of pain i could have saved if i had your guitar teacher! :)

Charles Hillier Well, when it comes to rap I agree with you. To me it is not even music. Shredding is impressive, no doubt about it, although some of it sounds like finger acrobatics which in my humble opinion, rather lack emotion. Still, I admire a shredder's dexterity.

Just because you underappreciate the musical value of and dedication and advanced technique required to execute shredding, does not mean it isn't music. Grow up. Like it or not, music by definition is not limited to sappy repetitive, two note string bending, or electro dubstep.

Vaxtin Are you some kind of NUT! this wanker is playing bits and pieces of arpeggios scale runs using the tapping, hammer-on and pull-off's in a rather random fashion! I never heard a hint of Jimmy unless it was during a sad drunken 5 minute beer bottle for slide solo where he is lamenting the boredom that music has become. I heard nothing that this twerp played that reminded me in any way of say, the solo in Whole Lotta Love! The all time best guitar solo ever played! It is all there, and in just a few dozen seconds Jimmy plays everything that needed to be played as well as the most important parts where he didn't over play. Learn it, love it, understand it, and you can be up there with the greats! Until then Get a hair cut and get a real Job! YOUR GUITAR PLAYING SUCKS- TOTAL BOREDOM!

That kid has technique, but no creativity what with him overdoing it with the tapping... and that amp sounds terrible. Also, I doubt he was only playing for 1.5 years at the time, I'm sure it was longer than that. That seems to be a thing among musicians, saying that they've been playing for less than they actually have been playing.

Tapping needs no creativity and a good solo is creative. Listen to Guthrie Govan's solos, technique and creativity

Arak Drakoniz Actually you can develop this level of technique in matter of weeks... I've been playing guitar for a long time (too lazy to remember when i started and calc). These are just some very basic scales, i think only1 scale to be honest but i skipped a lot in the vid, with distorted tapping that just looks and sounds complicated. After that he switches to a clean channel with heavy delay effect, also sounding complicated, but its a simple riff with the effect repeating it. These are just some fancy and easy stuff to make yourself look cool, or to get people into playing guitar when you say "i can teach you this in a month"

Zsolt Molnár He has technique, he has talent, but everything he played in this video is just stuff most metal guitarists can play. It really isn't all that creative. Also, tapping isn't complicated. I like metal and whatnot, but in some respects it's just a genre to impress people. I've been playing for about 6.5 years. I still can't solo worth a damn, I still don't know scales and I didn't start learning how to play chords (other than power chords) until just early last year. I'm just estimating that about 80% of what I've learned was from listening and self teaching. Personally I'm just influenced by simple stuff (i.e. Xasthur, Autumn's Grey Solace, Smashing Pumpkins).

Arak Drakoniz He doesnt really show neither technique, nor talent here, i'm not saying he don't have any, just not showing it on this video, these are kind of the cheap tricks of playing the guitar. Also as a little side note, i'd like to point out that the amp is really underpowered, also it's recorded with relatively low quality so... Anyway, he's a cool kid, but he shouldn't waste his time doing these kind of stuff and thus praising him for this stuff isn't good imo. No offense, but if you can't do some solo, i don't mean Joe Satriani level, just some stuff that would go for an amateur band, i would call you a hobby guitarist. You basically just look up tabs for songs you like, am i right?

My father was the musical one. He was gone by the time I was 2. I found a guitar in an attic when I was 9 and immediately started teaching myself. There was no one around me, but it was passed to me through my fathers gene pool. This is scientific fact. It isn't something people think, it is something people now know. You say anyone can learn it given enough time... what about the first person to build a guitar in the 14th century? Who taught him?

Nice work for the setting he was in. Obviously the point was to wow the audience in a short time and make an impression. He wasn't auditioning for a band. He played perfectly for the setting he was at. And I'm sure he will mature to play at other settings as needed as he grows with his technique and style. I mean really, you could be a hater, but honestly, what did he do that was 'Wrong" or Incorrect"? The answer is nothing. It may not be what you want to hear, but it's skilled, difficult, accomplished and I don't know what else.
