In 1986 I built a car very similar to this, licensed it in Virginia and put over 38,000 miles on it....NOTHING can match the feel on the highway, much more fun than a motorcycle and safer 😊

Surprised you made one that's street legal. I do recall from one of your FAQ videos that you didn't have much interest in doing it. But nonetheless glad to see you built one. I know here in Nebraska, far as I am aware from looking at some of the laws for custom street vehicles they would require a windshield and a wiper. Would have to see if that is still the case or if there's exemptions.

I went to the DMV, they are the ones that decide what can be registered and how. If you are interested in street legal crosskarting, and them for help instead of internet forums. I wish you the best.

How does the solid rear end do on pavement? Does it constantly want to slide out if you were to get on the throttle? Currently have a street legal crosskart in Michigan (very easy for those curious) with an open diff from a car as I'm worried solid may makeit to tail happy

Any particular reason you up shift using the clutch?
@KJRaycing25 күн бұрын
Any particular reason you don’t? The engineering side of me tells me the extra weight and lack of the rubber shock absorber in the rear hub means I should use the clutch slip to be easier on the transmission and synchros.
@AverageRider125 күн бұрын
@@KJRaycing No clutch is needed when shifting up and most of the time down (specific scenarios when you do need it). Just a quick off throttle, shift then back in the throttle for up shifts. The better you get at it the more seamless and faster it gets. You just can’t shift under a load up or down. There’s no risk to the transmission whatsoever because they were designed to shift that way. I’ve been doing it for almost 35 years with every manual transmission road and dirt motorcycle or ATV I have ever owned and never had an issue. Every MX and road race pro I’ve ever seen or road with shift that way. For me the clutch is used to keep the engine from dying and modulating power (forward and engine braking). The extra weight and the lack of cush drive rubber have no effect on it. Try it, it’s a lot easier on the clutch than high RPM slippage and there’s no risk to the transmission. Once you do it, it makes life a lot simpler and you’ll never go back. I was asking because I didn’t know if there was something you did to it to prevent it from being able to. I assumed everyone knew you didn’t have to use the clutch to shift up. Love your videos dude, these carts you are building are so awesome. You motivated me to start collecting parts for one for a future build. Got my eye on a bandit 1200 engine now.
I’ve ridden motorcycles for 25 years and know all about what you are saying… this is not a motorcycle, just a motorcycle engine. You can do whatever you want with yours brother, I’ll do what makes sense to me. The rubber shock absorber in the rear hub not being there is the main reason why I don’t do it to repeat myself. Thanks again man, these things are so fun to build and share.

What size engine is in this one? I'm 72. How hard is it to get in and out of it?
@KJRaycing24 күн бұрын
This is a 650cc parallel twin kawi, an awesome engine for on and offroad use in my opinion. They can be tough at first but once you get used to “how” to get in and out it is pretty easy (lots of grab points).
