I had a ton of power on my test bench and i wanted to see how much the SMDv1 could take. Believe me i pushed this thing hard! If you are wondering why the 8800.1 (8800 watts at 1ohm) only did 5250 watts, please observe the live reading on the SMD AMM-1. At right around 1.9ohms, it is right on par with it's 4840 2 ohm rating.

I’d love to have this single sub in my car on a 8k amp, alternator with big 3, one fs battery in rear, fs crank battery, with a SMD custom built enclosure with a acrylic top with blue LED’s, and amp wrack made with acrylic also. Brooooooo… I’m saving up money now tho to get. Single 15” dead bonce machete, 1500.1, and I’m building my own box. I’m getting back into it. I’ve been out of the bass game for 7 years now. After being in the game for 25 years. Now that I’m married with kids I just can’t afford it like I used to could. But I’m hoping to buy one piece at a time until I get it all.

The suspension is obviously the limiting factor here. Split coil, dual motor, has extreme excursion capabilities that far exceed how far the surround can accommodate. I bet this with the new sundown Mega W surround would be great....

Nice, i got around box rise by wiring my subs to 0.5ohm. I did a test and most bass frequencys it plays it doesn’t go below 1ohm impedance. Im using a pioneer d9601 amp

its extremely good, i dont like that it doesent have a high pass filter but thats not too bad. also do you notice when you adjust the bass knob the sub moves violently even with no music? i dont use the bass knob for this reason

i used a sig gen on my phone and confirmed that the output of the amp had a flat frequency response between 20 and 100Hz (using a voltmeter). i then turned my meter to amps and put it in series with the sub. i took readings of current at different frequency and thus calculated the impedance using ohms law. then i plotted an impedence frequency graph with this data on Microsoft excel. this shows the impedence peaks and dips well. my peak was at 36Hz it would have been easier using your meter that is designed for this but i used what i had.

I remember when I first saw the SMD v1. I was drooling and in love with the dual flux tech.. For the last few years Ive been traveling, hanging out in the SPL lanes and getting blasted by insane systems. My favorite subs are, Fi Sp4, Crossfire xsV2 (Spl or Non), DC Neo, EMF, Sundown, Skar DNR, and of course THE SMD (any version) is still on the list. I will own all my Favs. one day. I had the pleasure of getting a demo of one 15 on a CT sounds surfboard amp. I was impressed!! I can see it now I will be the old guy 60/70 years old still bumping out haha. Peace and Bass Bro :).

I hope people understand how serious that sort of test is (I know many do, but plenty don't). That's an absurd amount of wattage to dump on an un-boxed free air sub. Also to have such a long throw magnetic field that can magnetically keep its movement linear and under control way past xmax. You just can't argue with overbuilt. For the coils to not heat up and so on blah blah. There is nothing overhyped on these subs, just well made and way overbuilt.

This is a better middle ground still moves a shit tonne but you aren't losing to much surface area. The Zv5s might move a bit more but the surrounds crinkle all over and lose so much cone area
