Huh, the shards seem to have a "life cycle", it seems to be a more methodical type of "gray goo" scenario. Essentially, here are the phases: Phase 1 = A being gets lured to the shards, gets replaced, and brought to their home planet. Phase 2 = The shards begin replicating, killing and replacing more and more things. Phase 3 = The shards after consuming all biological matter on the planet, turns back into the glass shard like forms and creates rings across the planet, and starts releasing signals to lure in more civilizations, thus, repeating the cycle.
