i grew up spending a lot of time in Bologna. One day we went to Maranello to see the factory and as we were having breakfast, we heard chatter of a spot where you could sneak thru a fence and watch the test track. It was not far from the apex of the turn at 1:13. We spent at least a half hour watching them test the cars, possibly a better experience then touring the factory itself. I'll never forget the sound.

+MrGSA1310 you know it was never about the horsepower in f1, a very basic fact about the sport, but about the torque. They needed this kind of hp because suspension technology has advanced so much. Think about it. The pit stops were NASCAR speed in the 90s, at 7-9 seconds, in the 200s I went down to 3-4 secs, now it's at 2-3. Point is we don't need hp in such vehicles anymore. The Ford GT, which in the 60s was made for endurance racing, is now considered a gas guzzler in its modern form. F1 needs to advance with the times, not with the high pitches.

If it is to be used it would be for rare promotional photo ops only. So no current spec tyres or cars allowed. Even then I don't think it's been used in a long long time. The current lap record was set by Schumi back in 04, which suggests it hasn't been used much since then. The last time I remember was Vettel driving an old 2012 chassis at the start of 2015.

i think it is a small problem for him because if you watch him on a onboard camera and you see how much he changes the brake bias with the lever in the bottom left of the cockpit a lot of times during one lap and he is just trying to find the perfect brake pressure but he just can't. But i think we can see schumacher maybe getting a few pole positions or front row starts this year

Rodney Hayes Yes they do! These V10 engines revved to over 19,000 RPM, and they needed all sorts of ancillary equipment to support them. Starting one of these from cold involved connecting the water and oil systems to heaters and external pumps to warm the fluids and engine block, communicating with the car’s engine management software with a computer (usually several computers), and then spinning the engine over with the ignition switched off to ensure that the warmed oil was circulating through the entire system. All of that before even starting the engine! Once the engine was started, a gearbox shift check was usually performed to get the clutch calibrated and so that the engine management system could synchronize the gear shift with the auto cut and auto blip for the upshift and downshift. The whole procedure could take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours!
