I think that the main reason is the sheer vastness of space even within our own Solar System.I can't see how getting to Mars is going to be possible without some,as of yet uninvented, fission engine.We have fission engines in submarines and ships but they drive turbines however a one in space would work in a different way and would have to eject something to propel the craft.

As a child of the 1990’s I have a grand prediction, also foreseen by NASA and Al Gore: that in the year 2010 AD, 1. All the polar ice caps on Earth will be liquid water. 2. As a side effect of that Florida and Manhattan will be beneath the Atlantic Ocean. 3. Man will step foot on Mars.

If there are long term/life threatening effects to man in his attempts to venture beyond the moon, than we should concentrate our efforts here on earth, on putting together AI astronauts along with the rockets that will make the journey. Surely they can carry out the initial workload until man has limited the threat to its health in unaccustomed environments.

I'm more concerned about radiation and gravity than costs, because we can always find ingenious ways to raise money. I have yet to watch a video in which experts CONFIDENTLY reassure me that radiation and low gravity issues can be sorted out, and that space travellers can re-enter Earth's powerful atmosphere and gravity safely with their very weak bones after spending months or years in very weak gravity environments. Most of them just gloss over these very serious issues. Also, I just think more progress would be made faster and and cheaper if the world's major space agencies collaborated more. It's a shame that the Chinese were kicked out of the International Space Station, but just look at the awe-inspiring progress they have made in just the last 5 years: building their own space station, successfully landing on Mars and on the far side of the moon, and returning rock samples from the moon. Countries should stop viewing each other as enemies.

To go into deep space, what is needed is a large vessel the size of a battleship with radiation shielded areas for the crew. Such hulls should also be wide enough to provide spin for 1 gee effect and not cause inner ear effects. Think bigger! And finally, better propulsion systems and this seems to be on the horizon but not by most government programs. That said the first two items are more needed at least for Mars and maybe Belt.
@yoskarokuto3553

the reason is because the ship doesnt have the delta v to land. They need to launch at least 15 more rockets to refuel the rocket to even attempt to land, and when they do there is no abort mode for the crew for 6 days.

Why all these government costs. SpaceX dominates launches due to reasonable costs. Artemis costs 66x a falcon 9 launch. Yes, more capable, but less than Starship. I agree with above, go big. We need to spin.

I think there will be a few manned missions to Mars at some point. Then, just like missions to the moon, they'll stop due to high costs and lack of interest. Why send people when unmanned rovers and probes can accomplish just as much at a fraction of the cost?

Elon Musk, and others, want to set up a human base there in order to secure the future of mankind. At some pont there will be a massive asteroid headed our way. We better be prepared to deflect it, or have another human base when it comes. But, I agree, government sponsored visits will be short lived. The only reason the US government is even considering it is because they don't want the Chinese to make it first.

Rovers have limited fuctions. They can't take care of themselves and the lack of instant communication is a big issue. It can take weeks for them to put a drill on a tiny pebble. Humans could control them and help out from a nearby research base.

@@ericgolightly8450 Humans have limited functions and communication and also can't take care of themselves (or they require much more maintenance than a rover if you factor in space suits, habitats, etc). A well designed rover can operate for months or years on its own. Sending supplies to keep a manned base on Mars seems like it would be much more costly. Maybe it'll happen in the far distant future.

I would hope to see a mars mission in my lifetime, im 60 now so talking about the next 30 years. Realisticaly i dont think it will happen, costs skyrocket, people loose interest, governments change & change direction, funding get redirected so the dates for a potential mission get delayed time and time again. Too risky, too expensive, all we can afford financialy and politicaly is to send a probe its cheaper with no risk to human life, blah, blah, blah. We have become too risk adverse, no immediate profit or gain in it. Mankind was born on this earth and will die on it unless there is a massive threat to mankind, even then we will be too busy bickering amongst ourselves until its to late. The likes of Elon musk are the only ones willing to take a gamble on the future of mankind, he may not succeed but at least he balls to go for it before it is too late.

Whilst I agree we do on paper though produce enough food to more than sufficiently feed every soul on earth plus another 4-5 billion on top of that. We basically choose to have some well fed and indulgent whilst others literally starve. Half the volume in supermarkets is stocked with fucking cakes, sweets, coca cola, ready meals and all kinds of other shit. Wish we could just sort this bullshit out so that we have literally no excuse to not pour billions into off-world projects.

One day the humankind may be completely wiped out if we only have the Earth as a base. There are asteroids òut there with the potential to kill everything and there are supervolcanoes just waiting to explode. It's short sighted to not consider setting up another base. If not Mars, then at least the moon.
@keithgibson568
@keithgibson568 Жыл бұрын
If the money is not used for those "space experiments" it will be squandered on something else. Yes, starvation and homelessnes should be a priority but never have been and never will be, THAT is the reality of things. governments and big business dont give a damn about the individual, they are cannon fodder or cheap labour. Money and power is king, history proves it.
