A new bill in Washington, DC seeks to end the district's use of solitary confinement in jails. Rattling the Bars' Mansa Musa speaks with two formerly incarcerated organizers: Herbert Robinson and Cinquan Umar Muhammad of the Unlock the Box DC campaign, which advocates for an end to the barbaric practice of solitary confinement around the country and to pass the ERASE Bill.

I was in solitary confinement, in often very brutal conditions, as a political prisoner, in Britain. I have friends and comrades who have spent decades in isolation.

Just from the examples of Solitary Confinement I've read about a lot of Inmates come out of Prison suffering PTSD and are often traumatized.

When a government imprisons someone, that government becomes morally responsible for that prisoner's health and safety. It's especially shocking that people awaiting trial, who may be completely innocent, are nonetheless held in solitary, and thereby tortured and harmed. That could be you. That could be me. That could be anybody. But the guilty should not be punished in this way either. Torture is barbaric.

Look into the Delphi, Indiana trial of Richard Allen. 13 months pre trial, he went nuts and "confessed", they used that to convict him. Total railroad job!
