I always prefer the Australian/New Zealand houses featured on this channel over the American ones. Something about the austere simplicity favoured by the Oceanians that just resonates with me, whereas the American ones, even when they do simple they can't let go of a bit of pomp and glamour.

Yep you cant buy taste, a lot of the American ones are just gordy!

Loved this house! It's a concrete house but all the wood accents made it warm and inviting. I love how open and light common areas feel and how intimate upstairs bedroom feel with a different use of materials. They use a lot of different materials - concrete, wood, stone, tile, metal, terrazzo - and yet, they achieve a cohesive look. Also, a lot of wonderful architectural details like those screens, the circular roof with a mini-garden upstairs, beautiful landscaping. This hosue works on so many levels.

I think watching more of videos and videos of home tours from North America, I'm getting more confident in saying Aussies and Kiwis Build better homes, more pleasing and innovative, I've said this before but then it was just a feeling, it's moving closer to facts IMO and another amazing doc 👏👏

I'm American and follow architecture here and abroad and American featured architects/interior designers always focus on the "wow" factor vs. letting a quality built home that is specifically designed to meet the needs of the client overall - with quality finishes, quality craftsmanship, and equal focus on the landscaping - that showcase their personalities/interests sell the home. Some of the high glitz homes in CA look far too commercial to be comfortable family homes or they lack soft details in plants, rugs/curtains, etc. to add to the layering - visually and for sound/echo dampening purposes.

@@AB-ol5uz Thank you so much, I have a clearer grasp on something that I've always felt to be different between the two home building styles but just couldn't articulate. In your opinion would you say that since most homes (at least home tours that I see here on KZbin) are built by the developer then a buyer has to be found as opposed to a client contracting an architect to design the home that appears to be prevalent Atleast on The local project, would you say that also plays a role in the differences?

This is such a great channel. Thank you. I appreciate the cadence of the editing in this episode as it relates to the voice over. It often moves too quickly; making it difficult to focus on the architectural detail and craftsmanship of these featured homes. The second & third viewing is done with my finger on the pause button. Beautifully designed and executed with equal attention to the production. So well done. From Kingston, Ontario, Canada.

Such a well-conceived and executed home design. I'm so in love with the poolside that I literally screenshotted the pool shot from above lol. I mean this one has to be my dream home. Thanks for sharing, The Local Project team. Keep going! ✨

Really well done with the exception of the lower hallway which feels like a detention center - low light, concrete plus cinder blocks and the vertical wood “bars” sliding door going into the rooms (jail cells).

Great project. I especially love the tilting window shades/screens. So great to filter block the hot Southern sun from the home. I would put these mechanisms on a timer to automatically tilt up in the early morning and then come down to block the afternoon sun, and tilt up back up for sunset.

Our southern sun is the coolest…..it faces away from the equator. Perhaps you live in the northern hemisphere.

A good way of respecting the orginal owners of the land is to build a dope house on it... on the very peice of which you own!

I've watched a few of these videos, and one thing is striking: no pictures on the walls, no books on the shelves, no personal touches. The best domestic architecture is a starting point: everyone who lives within the house then gets to put their own stamp on it. Houses of this kind are obsessively tasteful but ultimately soulless.

Oh dear, that sandstone as a highly porous substrate is sure going to get a lovely patina, for the family who wants easy wear finishes with no paint😂. I hope they’re sealing it once a year to stop stains from penetrating it… instead of crazy sandstone, crazy slate would have been a better option - although that would still also need sealing - but not as porous. The rest of it… beautiful!

I love the incredible houses you cover and am so happy for this channel, but can the architects start saying something of substance instead of just using the same set of lingo? 😅 It seems like a subculture of Australia that is so different from the rest of the country.

Very nicely done, but too close to the neighbours' houses to be attractive for me.
