They had an alpine slide that I went on once as a kid. I also visited Mountain Park in the early 1980s, a few years before it closed. It was already showing its age then. I rode the front seat of the wooden roller coaster, and discovered very quickly that the padded plywood seat was no longer fastened down and would float up under me on the hills - just the seat belt or lap bar held me and the seat down.

That Alpine Slide you speak of was purchased by Powder Ridge Ski Resort in Middletown, CT. It was only installed but never used. There were plans to build a Waterpark/ Amusement park, but the park went bankrupt before that could happen. The park sat empty for years before it was reopened years later. I wonder if the slide is still there?

I hardly recognize the place anymore! The handicap accessible pool at the start was a wave pool. 14:45 The intact building at the base of the water slide was a big hot tub. The cubes on the floor were for sitting. This video is amazing (and a little depressing, had a lot of good times at Mt. Tom!)

1995 saw the installation of a fourth double chairlift, serving novice terrain. That fall, James Joseph O'Connell passed away, leaving ski operations to his widow Mary Rose O'Connell. Most likely around this time, Joseph O'Donnell acquired a stake in the ownership of the area. Following the 1997-98 ski season, the ownership decided to close Mt. Tom ski area and focus on operating their adjacent quarry. By the end of the decade, the chairlifts, snowmaking equipment, and night skiing lights had been removed and sold. Soon thereafter, the plots of land comprising the ski area were sold to different owners, effectively putting an end to any chances of revival.

It is a sad case to see these sort of places abandoned. No doubt they provided a great deal of fun and happy memories over many years. One wonders what went wrong. Even where I live these waterslides seem to have gone out of fashion, I presume people maybe got bored with them. I was never a huge fan of them myself. I would have thought the skiing would have been a draw. These sorts of places would cost a huge amount in maintenance and even a slight drop off in patronage could cause the company who owned it to go into the red. Notwithstanding the quarrying, there does not appear to be any sign of redevelopment, it will maybe remain that way for another 23 years! It was a very interesting video, thank you for bringing this to the people.

A device containing lithium ion batteries like the power bank is one thing you don't want to be a cheapskate about. As you've experienced the cheap ones can catch on fire and you don't want to have your car or your house burned down in exchange for saving $20. Buy a reputable brand. Also good idea to never charge them unattended.

i have an uncle that used to work on power lines and from what i learned from him those power lines would be full voltage lines meaning that yes the resort may have paid to put those lines in but the local power company owned and maintained the lines, the resort would only not pay if the lines were servicing something else that was there first. so for those that go there, those lines may still be active since they are still there and should be treated as such.

The instructors' lockers were downstairs. 18:50 Yep, that's it. 19:48 The ski school is to the left; the ski shop is to the right and that building down there is the rental shop. The parking lot is to the right of the rental shop. 26:25 That was the bar downstairs. I had many good times in there. 31:42 Ladies' bathrooms, the upstairs lounge beyond and the bar downstairs. 31:50 I believe that was an entry then the hallway and the kitchen to the right. 33:13 The original quarry. 35:14 Lift shack to the left, ski school and the lodge slab to the right. Wow, so this is what it looks like now... I would be skiing here in the winter, it was a group of us that traveled all over the northeast skiing. Half the lodges we visited are all closed now, crazy changes in the times with kids playing video games instead of being outside. I remember reading that they started having concerts during the summer in late 2000 but around 2011 they closed for good and nothing has been going on except vandalism for the past decade.

This place is such a good example of both sides of tagging and spray-paint art. The quick, simple tags are everywhere, some are placed with thought and care to the environment while others are just slapping it wherever is flat. then you get to the pool and the art thrown up on the wall is beautiful. Its eye catching and flows well, a true sign of care for other artists.

Post10 you were saying u thought that that small quarry was done after the park was closed. My guess is that that is actually where they got their limestone for doing all the concrete in that Park. Sounds like they were pretty self-sufficient with aggregate for their concrete and cement. Sounds like that they were on a natural spring so they had water to mix concrete and filter the water to fill all the pools and water works. Very cool indeed!

Found some decent locations where no or very very little graffiti. One place I always wanted to visit and when we did, was great. Been there like 5-10 times and the last time I took some videos and that's all I can see of the place now because someone decided to have a fire inside of it. Was built in the 1930-50s. Oh you're making a reference to Centralia Pennsylvania. And as far as I know graffiti highway is still there. And they remove the ZIP code from the town and the last remaining guy had to move out a few years back. and for those that don't know it's because of a coal fire underground that's been burning since the 60s, 1960s. And that's my home state and I'm like an hour and a half away from there. When we used to go to amusement park called Knoebels Grove my dad back in the 80s and early 90s our family would drive through there and I remember the smoke coming out of the storm drains and stuff when you go past the city or town. The closest town nearby is called Ashland and it has this big perfect grade of a hill that's over a mile long and I always thought it would be cool to like sled down that hill in the winter of course it'll be dangerous of a car is coming cuz that's route 61.

Shucks, I had to run before commenting. This video is so cool, and it dawned on me, the most exciting parts are when you call "hello" into a dark, graffiti laden, ramshackled building, not knowing if someone is around the corner. (Tiny squeal 🙎♀️) Please be safe. Once a year, a carnival would setup at a neighborhood school where I grew up. When I was older (12 to 14 or 15) I'd sneak out at least once at night, and walk the whole carnival area. The rent-a-cops would occasionally see me, but we'd only talk a while before they let me go. What kinda trouble could I do? I just love the whole entertainment park vibe. Have you thought of putting together a video montage of the best graffiti you've come across? Some of those are very creative and beautiful. Anyway, keep your very awesome videos coming and stay safe please!
