I’m a displaced teacher with 29 years of experience and the only district I’ve ever been with is passive aggressively threatening me with losing my career because of competition from younger more tech savvy teachers. But the truth is they can get 2 new teachers or 3 long term substitute teachers for one of me. They deserve these shortages, look how badly they treat us , use us up and spit us out!!!

Same in UK. The other hindrance is everything must be politically correct as per the Frankfurt School of Critical Thinking and Post Modernism. Everything is ultra sloppy liberal and non thinking ANTIFA. There is violence in the classroom but you are warned not to deal with it in case The Local Press gets hold of the story. Then the school looses its status, parents withdraw their students and so teachers lose their jobs and pensions. Solution..just teach all students to count from 1 to 5, and to speak 10 words only!
@katew.1765 жыл бұрын
@Alexander they do, as they match or at least contribute to a teacher's pension. However it's not the direct school site but the district it belongs to who does this.

Well the cost of living in Cali is so high that you just can’t teach unless you’re married to someone who makes money. I teach in KY and there are about three teachers at my school who moved from Cali because the cost of living was too high to teach there. However, there are definitely other factors going on nationwide to also add to this issue.

None of the real problems were discussed as to what is happening to the teaching profession. You start with lower pay, if there is a recession you will never make up what you lost. Schools want the teachers to do more with less support and time in which to do it. The teaching profession does not get the respect from the public it deserves. I could go on for quite a while more as to what was not discussed but you get the point. I still like the students though.

There might be a shortage of "licensed/qualified" teachers, but there doesn't seem to be a shortage of people wanting teaching jobs. I went to a "job fair" for teachers last weekend and there must've been over 50 of us looking for teaching jobs, whereas there were only 3, small(ish) school districts there to interview with. I doubt we would all be able to get hired this upcoming school year.

To get into most the teacher preparation programs for multiple subjects (K-8), California requires a student with a bachelor to pass 2 tests: CBEST ($99) and Multiple-Subject CSETs (3 subtests, $99 each) which began in 2003. In short, it costs a student with a bachelor degree $400 (if they they pass), and 3-month of studying just to enter the preparation program. They need to eliminate most of these tests! These tests are discouraging barriers and unnecessary. They are created to make these testing companies rich!. In my opinion, these tests do not justify "good" teachers. I personally would not need a teacher with high IQ or high scores on tests. I would rather have a teacher who would accept me and motivate me.

I left California after completing my MA and California Teaching Credential in 2007. My experience as a CSUS staff member and public school teacher made me realize that I was not trained to be a teacher but rather a tool for the indoctrination of youth to a social Marxist agenda. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZ21eoV_hcyGZ6s I saw California as a whole going down the tubes and foresaw the many problems that bad Democratic leadership has caused and is causing. I love living in the Midwest and not being in the state/federal dictated/controlled classroom. I earn just as much as a security professional as I would as an teacher and I can afford to live in the Midwest. California is not affordable on a teacher's salary and middle aged teachers are not wanted. They don't tell you that in college. I saw first hand how older tenured teachers were forced out of the classroom to be replaced with younger nontenured easily intimidated teachers. I have been a security professional for 13 years now and a bassist since 2014. Do not miss teaching at all!
