I visited China this year from February to April. I traveled alone and visited mostly the Southern West of the region (GuangZhou, NanNing, LiuZhou,LaiBin,ChongZuo,FangCheng,DongXing, and some remote villages). It is the safest, cleanest, convenient, and cheap place to visit. For the 2 months travel, I was shock how little I spent. Most of tasty meals cost around 7 to 20 yuan a meal, buses cost 1 or 2 yuan to go anywhere, fast train cost 100 to 200 from one major city to another, the hotels I stayed cost me 60 - 140 yuan per night, and beautiful parks are free. After the trip, I am planning to go back with my family and relatives to visit China till I see every city there.

Notice the 144 hour or 6 day VISA-free transit into China is EXTREMELY limited to the top-tier cities. That is, you are not to allow to freely go where you wish and you wiill not see the even 2nd tieir cities or the poverty cities. Starting around January the Chinnese government has done a masive promotional and every social media person from KZbin, Instagram, Tik-Tok received an email promotion to visit China. 144 hour visa-free transit (that is 6 days) Citizens of the 53 countries mentioned in 2.1 bearing a valid travel document and a confirmed flight ticket to a third country or region within 144 hours are entitled to stay in the following cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin and the following provinces: Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Liaoning without a Chinese visa. Attention: Foreign travelers making use of the 144 hour visa-free transit need to bear a valid travel document and a confirmed flight ticket to a third country or region (onward journey within 144 hours). The respective carrier is responsible for the application for the visa-free transit. The respective carrier has to acquire the preliminary entry permit.

Australians can travel to China for 15 days without a visa. I was there for much longer so obtained a visa which was very easy. China is super safe no worries walking around at night. Too bad you could only visit Shanghai. To the airport you should have taken the Meglev train which is the fastest in the world at over 400 kilometres an hour speed. The old section looks like the WW2 Shanghai ghetto which was a safe haven where over 20,000 Jews were saved as nowhere else would take fleeing Jews except the Dominican Republic which was very hard to travel to compared to China. A nice Chinese man showed me inside one of these residences and they’re not to bad inside. A river cruise down the Huangpu river is an option in the evening to witness the beautiful skyline. Did you visit the historic Peace Hotel on the Bund? Here in Australia there are plenty of Chinese electric cars like BYD,XPen, Zerkr and Aion. In China, the average living space per person is 45 square meters, comparable to the U.S., known for its large, luxurious homes. Approximately 95% of people in China own their homes, and there is no property tax. Even if individuals lose their jobs, they can typically rely on family support to cover basic needs, ensuring that they are unlikely to end up living on the streets.
@JasonVu-h7t3 ай бұрын
Yes, it is true that China is extremely wealthy and everyone lives like kings and there is no homeless like in America. The proof is that there are over 65 million empty homes/apartments as everyone has beautiful homes. Estimates for the number of empty homes in China range from 65 million to 80 million, and some say the number could be enough for 3 billion people. This includes homes in over 50 "ghost cities" that were built without enough demand, as well as residential projects that are sold but not yet completed, and homes purchased by speculators in 2016. Watch the videos in quotes to prove how wealth China is and that everyone owns a home: "Why China's Real Estate Market is about to COLLAPSE! As a Chinese, I don't think the lady in the middle of the video is a liar. 1. According to the English level of the lady in the video, her English level is higher than 95% of Chinese people. 2. Chinese people with this level of English have a higher probability of actively communicating with foreigners 3. When communicating, they often recommend surrounding places or related Chinese cultural things 4. If she is a liar, based on my understanding of liars---- this scene and the communication efficiency and communication content do not have the corresponding mature and efficient rhetoric and very attractive content as a liar. [If she is a sales-type liar, she is often very close to the corresponding store] Although you need to be vigilant of others in other countries, please don't use malice to guess other people's intentions. Many other foreign KZbin bloggers come to China and the probability of being defrauded is very low. What you need to be careful about is that the prices of some items in some tourist attractions are ridiculously high, and when you have no intention of buying, the other party packs their goods and sells them to you. At the same time, this item cannot be returned once it is packed. Merchants may take advantage of you being a foreigner or you not wanting to cause trouble and sell you goods that are not worth the actual value. [This situation rarely happens now] In addition, it may happen that someone near the airport may recommend you a hotel or taxi, which may be commissioned. So try to book your favorite hotel online. I hope you can have a good time in China. If there are Chinese people who have good English skills who come to chat with you, please treat it with a normal mind. I guarantee that most people will give you unexpected surprises. There is a certain probability that they will treat you to a free meal or take you to a famous food street nearby to recommend delicious or fun things to you.

This kind of thing happens in other countries, but due to the widespread online payment and information sharing in China, such fraud incidents have become very rare. At the same time, the impression of foreign tourists in Chinese people has changed from rich people to ordinary people, and they do not enjoy the superiority of being worshipped. If the lady in the video is a scammer, the blogger may be taken to KTV, remote hotels, or gift shops with ridiculous prices, or some 18+ scenes. These behaviors are basically impossible in public places in downtown areas. If this video was shot before 2010, then the lady might be a scammer. But this is a downtown area in China in 2024. Mainstream media in the U.S., Britain, Germany, Canada, and Australia rarely offer positive coverage of China. This selective reporting reflects a troubling lack of honesty and does a disservice to Western societies, which are struggling with governance issues. In contrast, while Chinese media is primarily controlled by a single party, it consistently highlights positive aspects of Western societies. This approach allows Chinese citizens to gain insights that could help improve their own society.

Great video, John! Subscribed. Do you know there used to have American Concession in Shanghai to the north of Suzhou River from 1848 to 1863, it merged with British as Shanghai International Settlement in 1863. As more foreign powers entered into treaty relations with China, their nationals also became part of the administration of the settlement. The number of treaty powers had climbed to a high of 19 by 1918 but was down to 14 by the 1930s: the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, France, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Peru, Mexico, and Switzerland. French Concession was separated from International Settlement in the western part of Shanghai. Many of the western styled buildings were built during that era. The location of Yu Garden is where Shanghai’s old town was where most Chinese used to live outside foreign settlements.

most chinese won't approach strangers on the street to chit chat so if they do then you know they hustling. that's why you are getting a lot of stares because they are curious but don't know how to react other than being a deer in headlights. since you were around touristy areas, most of the chinese you saw are also tourists. some may be from parts of china where they never seen a foreigner in real life so that adds to the curiosity. you can break the ice with a smile and wave and you'll likely see strange stares turn into smiles back. some might even get the courage to approach you with their broken english 😂. anyways shanghai is a bit boring imo. it's very commercial so you have more of a big city feel than being in a real chinese city.

Most Chinese will go about their lives just as any human in any country would normally do. Those who approach foreigners are mostly curious and want to know where you are from so they can then welcome you to China. This is a recurring for every world traveller vlogger in China. Younger ages are more inclined to know some English. 3:50 They're not looking at your hair in that case, you have a cap on. Young people dye their hair blue and purple, hair color is less of an attention grabber than skin color. They're just not used to seeing Caucasian people, much less pale ones. Now you know what it's like to e a non-white in a Euro-Western countries.

This has also increased viewership as many as curious to what's really happening there, including the locals and their daily lives. Another possibility for a young lady to have tea with you on the street is that she wants to know you and maybe date with you. It happens more in Shanghai or other big cities. Don’t get scared!
@josephdewuhan3 ай бұрын
She could be just trying to bring some business to some tea house, just like people in front of a restaurant trying hard to bring you into it and eat there. Until you go with her and being charged double or trpple the price locals pay, you not do know if it is really a scam. You are right not to go with her, but I would not call her a scam because of that but just call that aggressive marketing or guest grabbing. She actually just left after you said no, not even really aggressive.
@jdandyfilms3 ай бұрын
It was the 3rd time it had happened to me and I had read some horror stories online so I assumed the worst. the first lady that tried was much more aggressive. ive heard of people being taken to these tea houses then they are overcharged a ridiculous amount!
@josephdewuhan3 ай бұрын
@@jdandyfilms Tea in China costs next to nothing, triple price would still be almost nothing compared to anything we pay in North America. I think grabbing you into a gift shop or a alcohol bar may cost you more. Most foreign bloggers claim they almost never got charged more than locals.

interesting to know. after 2 other encounters like this that were more aggressive my trust was low. i'll keep your comments in mind next time in China. Overall, I had a great time in the country and would love to return
@jamnana22353 ай бұрын
@@jdandyfilms It's a bit of both, they are trying to bring in some legitimate business to their stores, but it can also be quite pricey. They'll often try to push the highest grade tea for you to purchase which is unsurprisingly very expensive. Chinese treat tea similar to how Westerners would treat beer or wine; tea is an inexpensive everyday enjoyment but there are varieties and grades which are considered a luxury and those are often the teas they will try to push to you at these shops. So it's not like you're being scammed to pay for something that's not worth its price, but the price is often a shocker for foreigners whom honestly won't be able to appreciate them anyway. My suggestion is to stay away unless you're curious about it and are willing to spend some money on tea.
@ivyshy983 ай бұрын
@@jdandyfilms yeah best just to avoid them. these types of things happen all around southeast asia but can be a bit more extreme in shanghai since it's an expensive city to begin with. most unsuspecting victims just go in and let them do the ordering so you end up pay a lot more for drinks. some places even have like a 'minimum' order which is where they will get you. this is more typical for bars and clubs where $1000-$2000 minimum/table fee isn't unheard of. needless to say just ask to see the menu/prices before ordering anything.

At least based on the video you sent, the Chinese woman doesn't appear to be scamming you. They might indeed be trying to sell you some products, but you can simply go with her to check and refuse after asking the prices. However, accusing them of being frauds without confirming whether they actually intend to overcharge you just shows a sense of superiority.
