I recently moved to Hachijojima to teach English on the island. This video is so beautiful and I feel so grateful to be on the island now. I managed to explore the Royal hotel a week or two ago and thought it was stunning. Very dangerous but also such a surreal feeling to the whole thing. That undeveloped film is an absolute gem of a find. I was looking to see if there was anything interesting like that, the best I found was the Piano in the room with all the vegetation. It would be so cool to film someone playing on it

The school in Ikeshima made me both happy and sad. I was happy that the staff members were still so enthusiastic about teaching those 3 kids but also sad about how quiet the school seem. I’m a preschool teacher and I adore the usual bustling noises of a busy school day and children laughing and chatting away at recess. It's hard to describe that feeling that abandoned places can give off. It's a mix of loneliness and emptiness. It's a reminder that time doesn't stop and eventually we are all forgotten. There are probably still people who have vivid and great memories of these places. All that remains now is the shell and a glimpse of the past. You can't help but wonder who lived and worked there and what their lives are like now. Memories remain but you can never revisit them. This is like walking in memories. Awesome video!

Your excellent videos remind me of the curiosity, empathy and care with which Shiey explores the world. He investigates, takes nothing, and moves on. All my life, I have always fell in love with collecting different things, especially things with historical impact. Those developed photos are truly breathtaking, something like that where you find a strangers' childhood memories is a once in a lifetime find. I was searching through books in a Goodwill and found a photo of a stranger between the pages. I assume his wife donated the book after his passing, but it's crazy to uncover something valuable and a memory lost in time, just for the next person to find.

You motivated me so much to seek discomfort and say yes to new experiences to the point where I love to travel now and have done amazing things!! I wish I could meet y’all one day and travel with you. But again, thank you for being such a motivation to try new things and also you guys are like so down to earth, yet so emphatic to other’s situations. I can’t believe they visited that resort! I only learnt about the resort the other day when I stumbled upon it so I’m surprised to see a big KZbin channel like Yes Theory do a video on it. I was looking up the Island and learning about it because I thought it would be interesting to live in such a place and then in the pictures on google I saw these pictures of this big abandoned hotel and I was intrigued. So I looked it up and read about it and I thought it was really interesting. When I saw the thumbnail for the video I was like “no way that’s the same hotel I’m thinking of. But it looks so much like it.” And then I clicked on the video and it was! I’m so surprised!

Seeing how spooked the piano playing made you at the first place I couldn’t help but wonder how you would have reacted if the phone in the apartment would have rang while you were standing there. What an immensely captivating video! It has everything: Beautiful cinematography and editing, two interesting and unique locations, and inspiration which urges one to think. I especially find the latter of great value, especially in times where entertainment is almost an antithesis to thinking, which this video shows doesn't have to be that way.
