How does it achieve being lighter and warmer then the microlight? Surely more warmth would = more down. Or does it use a lighter waight fabric/higher quality down to the microlight?
@Cornwall18882 жыл бұрын
From what I can see the microlight uses 150 grams of 700 fill power down, so there is more and denser down in this and the outer fabric is thinner also no bungee cord around the hood which will save a bit more weight

'Matching Apples' has got it pretty much spot on. Slightly more insulation at a higher quality, but with a lighter, more streamlined construction. 405g vs 467g, so not a colossal difference.

I'm after an insulated jacket (ideally down) that will be very warm, but suitable for every day Winter wear. I have recently bought the Electron pro and the Neutrino pro, but I'm not sure which of them would be the best overall (or if there are better alternatives?) I have a trip to Norway planned over New year, so I assumed the Electron wouldn't be warm enough for that? Thanks

For UK winter everyday use you could realistically use either. I'd personally choose the Electron for the UK as I don't feel the cold as much as some, but if you're also venturing off to Norway you might benefit from the added warmth of the Neutrino.

@@trekitt Thanks! Another option that I managed to get hold of... The Positron Pro. Is that overkill for the UK? I like to wear a jacket over just a t-shirt, so I often find lighter jackets don't give me as much warmth.

Great video. What other options are there for a every day UK spring use? Warm, light and shower proof for those 15 mins you get caught without a waterproof?

I'd recommend a synthetic jacket over down if it's being used for everyday use with the possibility of getting damp; here are two good options: Mountain Equipment Superflux: www.trekitt.co.uk/clothing/jackets/mountain-equipment-mens-superflux-jacket-black__42855 Fjallraven Latt Hoody: www.trekitt.co.uk/clothing/jackets/fjallraven-mens-expedition-latt-hoody-forest-green__46825

How would you compare this to the electron for winter activities? I'm going on a trip to norway and do snowboarding and hiking, but also use it at home in the forest while hiking. Last year I went to Norway and it was freezing; serious windstorms and -10c. Super cold and didn't have the right gear with me. I'm thinking of using the jacket as a midlayer (with only a base layer) for snowboarding or as an outer layer for hiking etc. My guess is that the argon would be really nice, but my only doubt is that it is not warm enough when I'm just on a flat hike at home. The electron might be perfect for casual activities but way too warm for real mountain activities.... What are your thoughts? ps. V Series by Haglofs also came to mind... thanks!

I had an Electron and found it too warm for general hiking here in the UK, unless up in the depths of Scotland. The Argon is arguably the more versatile layer.

hi, i already own a Microlight (2022 version). Wanted to get another jacket for colder days - mostly hiking and city/park walks. Is Argon too close to Microlight or would it be a worthy addition? Or shall I go for ElectronPro, which I am slightly fearful of being too much for the UK?
@trekitt Жыл бұрын
For hiking the Electron will be too much for the UK in my opinion; ideal as an everyday piece though. The Argon will be more suitable for hiking but your Microlight will be more than capable.

Would you recommend this for summer mountaineering in the alps? Currently looking for gear that works well in Dutch winters (probably comparable to UK winters) and high alp summers. Ideally looking for a range of -10 to 0 celsius.

Yup, sounds ideal for what you're doing.

Would this jacket be suitable for me? I live in West Yorkshire and would use it for everyday activities such as shopping and walking.
@trekitt Жыл бұрын
Yup it'll work, but you might find it too warm for walking depending on your intensity level.

quick question about down jackets. I've used mine while going back and forth too school with a bag on my back. after just two weeks the baffles on the back already started feeling less bulky, and losing its loft. is it a way to get back the loft?
@trekitt2 жыл бұрын
The down has probably just shifted to the sides of the baffles. Give it a good shake and leave flat for a day or so. The down shouldn't need a wash after such a short period of time.

Could be something to do with the hydrophobic down treatment, which I believe could potentially cause the down to clump/stick together (especially when simultaneously squashed and warmed by your body heat). Just a theory but a plausible one in my opinion.
