I'm currently looking into the Nebula and the Neutrino Jacket by Rab. I like that the Nebula is synthetic (for ethical reasons) but i don't know if it is just "enough" for what i need. I mostly would use as a hiking jacket in the alps. I dont do anything too extreme though, so i'm not sure with which of them to get with...
@trekitt3 жыл бұрын
The Neutrino is quite a bit warmer but doesn't cope with damp conditions as well, so I guess it depends how warm you need to be and whether the insulation's wet weather performance matters to you. I'd probably lean more towards the Nebula for active use. Harry

@trekitt20 күн бұрын
The Nebula would potentially work down to those temperatures with the correct layering and during activity, however you would probably find that more insulation would be beneficial if you were static or particularly feel the cold. The Infinity Alpine is a great jacket, one that will pip the Nebula Pro for warmth and be a viable option. If you had your heart set on Rab, for the kind of temperatures you mention then we would also recommend looking at the Neutrino Pro - www.trekitt.co.uk/outdoor-jackets/insulated-jackets/rab-mens-neutrino-pro-jacket-black__58916
@trekitt18 күн бұрын
The Nebula would be a possible option, but may be at or beyond it's limits a little in those kind of temperatures, the Infinity will be a lighter and warmer alternative, but you could also look at the Generator Alpine for a warmer synthetic alternative from Rab, or the Neutrino Jacket as a warm Down alternative to the Infiinity (the Neutrino has a more relaxed fit).

@@trekitt Thanks, I have it narrowed down between the electron and Infinity Alpine , It seems the electron will be warmer for standing around but i do like gore tex finish on the infinity . when comparing on rab site , the electron has 800 fill vs 700 for the infinity .. thoughts
@trekitt15 күн бұрын
@@andrewhillis8973 Looks like you might be confusing the specs of the Infinity Alpine with the Infinity Microlight. The Alpine has 800FP, same as the Electron Pro, whereas the Microlight has 700FP. The Alpine has slightly less down compared to the Electron Pro, but has that Gore-Tex Infinium (Windstopper) membrane which evens out the warmth and also makes the Infinity more weather resistant, so if the weather is a little worse then we'd suggest going for the Infinity Alpine. But either way between the Electron Pro and the Infinity Alpine we think you'll be happy with your choice!

A great video yet again. I am considering one of these, but i was wondering about how they are washed? Do they get washed as per normal sheet type insulated jackets, or do they need to be washed / dried in the same way as down? TIA
@trekitt3 жыл бұрын
The Nebula Pro can be washed as you would wash any synthetic jacket. Please use a proper “detergent” such as Nikwax Tech Wash. if you need to replenish the DWR a spray on is best, such as Nikwax TX Direct. Wash on a gentle cycle no hotter then 40 degrees Celsius. The jacket can then be air dried. Thanks for watching. Paul.

Ice guide has 219g primaloft silver eco. It's a mine field
@trekitt13 күн бұрын
Glad you liked our video. You've stumbled onto the tricky nature of comparing insulated jackets, you're far from the only one that gets confused on this and the answer is pretty muddy too unfortunately. Comparing the Generator to the Nebula, the Generator uses sheet insulation and a solid face fabric, so no stitch lines for wind to penetrate through, both of those factors make it warmer than the Nebula. The Nebula however, will be more packable, so will take up less space in your pack when you're carrying it, blown insulation tends to be more compressible. It can be hard to compare sheet insulation to blown insulation because manufacturers use different metrics for each, GSM for sheet and total fill weight in Grams for blown insulation. The Generator will be ever so slightly warmer than the Fitzroy, but the Firtzroy has slightly burlier fabric and that Gore-Tex Windstopper membrane makes the Fitzroy more weather-resistant. You could look to the Citadel from ME as well if you needed something warmer, which would be closest to your Montane Ice Guide. From what we can see (it's long since been discontinued), the Ice Guide is a bit of a beast when it comes to insulation for a synthetic. As we mentioned, it would be most comparable to the ME Citadel. It is definitely warmer and more protective than the Nebula. However, due to its age, the Ice Guide has likely lost some of its insulative properties, so it will not perform as well as it did when new.
@DCowley814 күн бұрын
You guys never fail to deliver on devilvering advice. I understand what you mean with all the different jackets. I'll still be using the ice guide for winter climbing so the nebula would be an all rounder,. Round the doors, campsites, wind camping, dragging, mountain days. I love my down jackets of past in how they perform and going to a synthetic feels odd. For the price and what it offers the nebula feels right. I like tge water proofness. Woukd live a citadel but just can't afford. I really appreciate your help and going and looking at tge ice guide specs. I bought this 8 years ago from montane factory sales for £40😮

Can't decide on synthetic or down. Decisions, decisions

Hi, The Nebula Pro uses a synthetic filling whilst the Kinder Smock uses a natural down filling. Warmth wise they are very similar, and they have very similar face fabrics making them equally durable. The Nebula however performs significantly better in cold and wet conditions thanks to the Pertex Quantum Pro fabric and the synthetic filling. The fit of the Nebula is slimmer and this makes the filling more effective. The Kinder is a bit of a retro piece with a loose, baggy fit. What would you say is the best winter coat for UK ?
@trekitt4 жыл бұрын
There isn't one I'm afraid, it depends on how much warmth you need, which fits you best, which has the features you're after, etc. We've got a pretty good playlist which should help narrow it down; I'll pop a link below. Kind regards, Harry. kzbin.info/aero/PL08r2wWpJSjO_fOCilSZn7Kt6wbOUVFz9

The Fjallraven Vidda Pro Wool Padded Jacket (link below) would be a great option. It features the toughest fabric of any insulated jacket we stock, can be waxed for added weather-resistance and uses wool to add extra insulation. www.trekitt.co.uk/clothing/jackets/fjallraven-mens-vidda-pro-wool-padded-jacket-dark-olive__40038

@@trekitt thank you. If I want to buy syntetic or down. which one is most durable for tearing?
@trekitt3 жыл бұрын
@@semihguven454 Most synthetics will leak less if you rip the face fabric, but neither insulation type will necessarily resist tears.

@@trekitt I reckon this person means 1.85m tall, and 100kg weight. Therefore I think it’s quite likely the extra large sizing is correct for them.

what's the pack size like for when it's stuffed?
@trekitt3 жыл бұрын
Hi, I reckon that it would fit into a medium exped fold dry bag which is 35x19x14,cm or 8 litres.
@LabeledbyGs3 жыл бұрын
when the jacket is stuffed into the included back it has a diameter of 16cm and a height of 24cm, so a total volume of around 4,8 litres

Hey Jamie, we almost always have voucher codes available for various brands/products; at the moment we've got a 10% off Arc'teryx code. There's a grey bar on the website which, on the far right, says 'voucher codes' - periodically check here and you'll get some additional discounts every now and then. Kind regards, Harry.

How does this compare to the Atom AR? Thinking about getting one of these. The Nebula is considerably less expensive (I can get it for $185USD right now), but I think Arcteryx will have a 25% off Black Friday sale which will drop the Atom AR down to $225. Just looking for a highly insulated synthetic jacket that is comfortable/easy to wear and maintain without going to full winter jacket mode.
@trekitt2 жыл бұрын
The main difference is the Atom uses sheet insulation whereas the Nebula uses blown. We've got a good video explaining the differences here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3Obo5eXo7eeoLM
