Top of my list to replace my old Xenon 1. Not sure how good an idea stealth anthracite is - the brighter marmalade is more like it, red would have been nice. Another chest pocket would have been a good idea and maybe 80g/sqm insulation in the arms for better mobility and smaller pack size but at 500g in my size small, and with useful extra features such as hood peak and adjustment, two- way zip and proper cuffs, which the Xenon doesn't have, the extra weight and pack size is forgivable. Good run- through of the Generator Alpine.

How does the warmth compare to the Fitzroy? This is a little bit lighter but the Fitzroy is more water resistant. Would the warmth be similar?
@trekitt
@trekitt Жыл бұрын
Very similar-both use roughly the same quantity of down and both are exceptionally weather-resistant (for an insulated jacket). Pick your favourite brand, basically.

Hi. Is this jacket a bit overkill in uk summer mountain camp. I’m looking for a jacket to sit around in on the tops.

Will most likely be overkill unless windy but better to be too warm than too cold.

Is it the same size fit like the Rab vr summit. I’m a large in the vr and it fits me perfectly. I’m just getting fed up ordering stuff and having to pay a fortune for return.
@trekitt
@trekitt Жыл бұрын
Yeah pretty close. I'd opt for a large in both the VR Summit and Generator Alpine. The latter may be ever so slightly looser, but that's what you'll want for a belay piece.

Would you say this is warmer than the Nebula Pro for wild camping or is this strictly a belay jacket?

It's probably not as warm as the Nebula but it is more weather resistant.

@@trekitt How is this possible? The Generator Alpine has more Stuff Isolation and with primaloft gold core and weight 500gr but the Nebula pro has half of Stuff isolation and weight just 255gr. How and why is the Nebula pro warmer then the Generator Alpine? Thanks for this Video.

I bought the nebula pro and took it back for not being warm enough and swapped it for the generator alpine. The old nebula pro seemed much warmer than the current one now they have switched to an inferior primaloft silver

@@JellyMan3634 It’s funny you should say that. Last weekend I took my Nubula Pro up on Dartmoor where it got to -2°C. I remember feeling cold sat next to the tent preparing food wearing this jacket over an Arc’teryx Proton FL and merino baselayer. It’s certainly not as warm as a down jacket, and probably not as warm as a jacket with PrimaLoft Gold insulation.

I am curious why they didn't use the diamond fuse fabric on the whole jacket. The torso would probably get the least amount of wear... would make more sense to have diamond fuse on the arms, shoulders and back.
@trekitt
@trekitt 6 ай бұрын
Rab had their reasoning behind the fabric placements, although it would've been nice to see that diamond fuse on the back panel as well.

How does this compare to warmth to the Photon Pro jacket? They both seem very similar
@trekitt
@trekitt Жыл бұрын
Theoretically they should be extremely similar as there's only a very slight discrepancy in the quantity of insulation. The Generator does feature Aerogel additions though, which does boost the warmth of the jacket.

Im looking at getting this jacket or Mountain equipment Fitzroy how do they compare for warmth and hydrostatic rating
@trekitt
@trekitt 5 ай бұрын
Warmth will be very similar between the two, they offer pretty similar levels of insulation. The Fitzroy has the edge in water resistance thanks to it's Gore-Tex Infinium (windstopper) membrane. You could also consider the Citadel from Mountain Equipment if you wanted something even warmer.

@@trekitt OK thanks you very helpful or would another option be to buy a really good waterproof coat over my rab cirrus alpine?
@trekitt
@trekitt 5 ай бұрын
Layering a waterproof jacket over the top of your Cirrus is potentially a good approach, you'd have a warm and waterproof setup. Maybe not quite as warm as the Fitzroy or Generator, but you have the advantage of being able to use either jacket on it's own as well as together. @@freddiegillum-webb1412

Hi, you say Rab used 133 grams of insulation through the body, but I don't see that anywhere. My impression is that the 133g was how much the insulation would weigh for a square meter, with no mention of how much insulation was in the jacket.
@trekitt
@trekitt 6 ай бұрын

What does "belay" mean? Sorry for my ignorance.
@JoeZUGOOLA
@JoeZUGOOLA 2 жыл бұрын
When you hold the rope for a climber incase they fall you can slow them down. Very often it's a long, cold, windy job where you are stood still so you require good insulation like the duvet jacket in the video. Belay jackets of course have many uses like when you're in camp.

I'm looking for basically the warmest synthetic jacket that is compressible. Is their anything warmer with similar quality insulation but higher gram per meter fill weight? (Ie more warmth). I'd imagine they could easily make this jacket double the thickness and it would compete with down jackets and still be decently compressible and light weight (probably close in weight to equally warm down jackets because box baffles do add weight that synthetics don't need). And ideas? Cheers
@trekitt
@trekitt 8 ай бұрын
The two jackets that immediately spring to mind are the Mountain Equipment Fitzroy and its big brother the Citadel. Both are synthetically insulated and make use of Gore-Tex Infinium (Windstopper) to further enhance both warmth and protection. They won't pack down as small as the Generator, but are both warmer, more protective and will be more durable thanks to a 30D outer. www.trekitt.co.uk/outdoor-jackets/insulated-jackets/mountain-equipment-mens-fitzroy-jacket-medieval-bluemagma__42851
