I owned a TN laser comp 1 for years and can honestly say it was a brilliant bit of kit. Well made, reliable, lightweight bit of kit. Highly recommend Terra Nova tents, excellent quality.

Terra Nova still pretty much wear the crown for super light weight tents. Thanks for watching.

Amazing video! You answered all the questions I had about the tent in a wonderful and entertaining way. Thanks!

The sleeve does not add extra protection against wind and rain. It is essential as the whole seam running across the middle of the tent is not taped.

TN have ditched the cap strip altogether in the 2023/24 version. No longer necessary.

I found this to be a good impartial review, including the replies in the comments. Question : can the inner tent be pulled back to increase the main vestibule size; effectively making it a one person tent ?
@trekitt4 жыл бұрын
It's not a native feature of the tent, but you could botch it a little to make it work. The inner attaches to the outer four poles (the same place as the flysheet), so you'd just have to disconnect two of them, then peg them in a different location to offer more room in the vestibule. It wouldn't be a neat job though! Kind regards, Harry.

@@trekitt Thanks for your reply. Maybe not a neat job, but it would mean that you can leave your bedding out and still have a wet weather shelter for cooking whilst wearing full waterproofs. It amazes me that tent manafacturers generally do not have an inner tent that can be adjusted in such a way.

Good review. I have the 1 person version - couple of things. (1) The door tie back is in the wrong place, should be the same as the akto. When there is condensation on the tent, you get wet trying to tie the door back (2) Pole sleeve - what is that about? Should have been integral with the tent itself (3) Not a fan of groundsheet protectors, ffaff to put on if windy, can’t see the point of a lightweight tent floor that needs additional groundsheet, just make the tent floor more robust.
@trekitt4 жыл бұрын
Hi Dylan, thanks for your considered comments. yo make some valid points. If only there was a "perfect" tent that was super-lightweight, had no condensation, was as tough as nails and was roomy and comfortable!

A fair review of the Laser 2, though I would echo views on it being a tight fit for 2 and, if soloing, go for Laser 1, as it gives you bigger porch footprint. Light weight compromised by really needing the footprint - and I would recommend ditching the titanium pegs. No weight, but no use either. Surprised you only say to carry a few extra pegs. Would be as well with Kirby grips. Get a decent set of hillebergs or msrs. A tad ironic that weather outside a bit too rough to demonstrate putting tent up - doesn't inspire much confidence. On reflection, wishing I had spent the extra £100 at the time to buy the Hilleberg Atko. A near 100% increase in price of Hilleberg over last five years, however, is just not on.

The tents we use for our Inside Look videos are for demonstration purposes in our shop, so unfortunately we can't go out and get them all wet and muddy. Kind regards, Harry.

A 400g footprint on to a 1200g tent is a 33% increase, not a little bit of an increase imo. There is a superlite footprint I have heard that weighs much less and costs much more.

Fair point, but still worth it despite the weight increase. Harry

The inner tent height is 95cm, so your best option is to measure yourself sat down and compare the difference. Kind regards, Harry.

Hi Pilgrim. Im 6Ft 2" andi find its fine, well....i had the Ultra 2, so as far as im aware theyre the same inners. It will have some cosiness but thats something, as im sure you know, that goes with the territory. Just take into account the thickness of your mat, and everyone has a different size torso, and even how firm you have your sleeping met will effect the outcome. Whatever you decide, you will fair well buying from Trekitt. Ive been buying my gear from them since the early 90's, and they have always been very punctual, professional and when ive on the rare occasion had an issue ( with an item, never with the staff) they have done everything possible AND then bent over backwards to help. When you buy from them, your not buying just the item and then forgotten about. They truly are a passionate lot who love the outdoors. NOPE, i dont work for them nor am related or friends with them, just appreciate it when i get great service.

I've just bought the all season 2 man (waiting for it to arrive) and there is very little info about it, I think there is literally 1 poor KZbin video about it. Other than the already provided info on the TN site (increased hydrostatic head on both the fly and groundsheet), it's seam sealed, has the ability to accept an additional hoop pole alongside the main hoop pole save doesn't require that odd hood waterproof cover. Apart from that its the same build as the laser compact 2

It's going to be a tight squeeze, I'm around the same height and could fit in, but with strong wind and rain etc. we may get some inner tent contact. Have a look at the Hubba NX, it's roomier - www.trekitt.co.uk/10434/products/msr-hubba-nx-1-person-tent-green.aspx

It is a great tent But The 2 person tent is too small for 2 people Don’t get it as a solo tent Get the 1 person tent for a solo tent because it has the same outer but the inner is narrower This means the vestibule of the 1 person is much wider and usable for cooking and storing wet gear A much better solo tent
@trekitt4 жыл бұрын
Fair point, but it all depends on how "friendly" you're prepared to be and how lightweight you want to go. For two this tent is a great lightweight option, even if a little cramped! Paul

600 quid for a tent that is reliant on bungee to pull out the inner instead of clipping to the fly 🤦🏻♂️ And those door tie backs...🤦🏻♂️ So basically with the footprint down, there are 3 lots of bungee per corner peg? 😖

The elastic is a simple and light solution to creating good tension when pitching the tent, it is easily user serviceable should any strands break and reduces bulk, all tick boxes for a tent like the Laser Compact that is aiming for a small and light pack size/weight. It's a design that Terra Nova have used for quite some time on their Laser family of tents and they've proven to be a popular choice for the fast and light crowd, but we appreciate this solution isn't for everyone. If you're not a fan of the design but need something similar then we'd suggest the Nordisk Telemark 2.2 LW Tent - tinyurl.com/Telemark2-2

Just gotta get that airflow working, but small tents with less volume inside are always prone to condensation. Thanks for watching.
