Moynihan needs to be a standard-setting station for how America's railway stations need to be built. We could also use new trains, and a European style transportation system in this country. Great video.

I love the new Moynihan Train Hall. However, the lack of seating is lamentable. Also, it's easy to put down the traditional Penn Station across the street, but it has numerous shops and food choices, and is quite functional and convenient. One big plus about the new train hall is the Amtrak first class lounge, upstairs. It rivals many airline clubs at major airports. The view of the train hall is great, and food & beverages are free.

It's many years since I last visited NYC (and indeed the USA... I'm from the UK) and I used Penn Station a number of times. Although it was functional enough, it always felt cramped and crowded. So I was encouraged to hear about the redevelopment of the Moynihan Building as a new entrance to the station some years ago. Well what a delight! Light, spacious and airy... it's a fitting entrance point for NYC and I'm sure regular users must be equally impressed. So roll on my eventual return. Well done the architects and developers... and thanks!

@chatapratt76804 ай бұрын
The thing is it being an artistic place comes second to its primary function…being a train station. Transportation centers are supposed to provide seating in common areas. The architects really didn’t consider elderly people, people with disabilities or people waiting for family members, rideshare, etc. They just focused on keeping the homeless out
@BD-eu1id3 жыл бұрын
If I’m leaving NYC, it’s usually via Amtrak. The light and high ceilings are great, but I’m wondering about the practicality. One of the major issues with Penn Station is the mad rush to get to the escalator when your track is called. It doesn’t appear that they will be able avoid that in this train hall.
@LinwoodPowell3 жыл бұрын
I think the idea behind this whole project was to relieve congestion at Penn Station, no completely absorb the workload. Track 17, for instance, might have become congested when called at Penn station, but now since track 17 can be accessed at both Penn and Moniyhan, that completely stops congestion.

My first impression is that it's lacking ornamentation -- a bit sterile. Part of the challenge is long-term maintenance costs -- things don't get cleaned as much as you'd think, and anything which would gather dust/grime will be the first to get "shabby". Less is more. But I'm with you; the lack of architectural details is disappointing. I think the lack of public seating is to discourage vagrancy. Amtrak passengers are ticketed so can prove they're in transit -- other networks (e.g. LIRR) are regular commuter services and there's no need to sit around for long.

Grand Central will always win out for me, but I'm eager to see this new space next time I'm in New York.

Def not better than GC but a great station none the less! I was there filming myself a few weeks ago. Great video. Thanks!

This building was built along with the original Penn station to facilitate passenger and mail movement. It only makes sense to make this a train station after they tore down that beautiful station built the horrific Garden.
