Kevin is straight up bipolar with his movie views, him and Tim baffle me every week with what they want from a movie and what they don't. This movie will still be my favorite Pixar movie so far. It’s complex and simple, beautiful and ugly, and I feel that it takes a different kind of mentality to truly enjoy this movie. It takes courage to face our emotions, and this movie makes us do just that.

Its hilarious how much Kevin IS Sadness during this entire review. Even his "what's better getting surprised by pizza or your favorite pizza place burning down" is literally the reasoning for why she touches the dinosaur memory and turned it blue. The anticipation for pizza being ruined and her sadness over that bleeding over into what she was thinking about. It makes perfect sense to me he hates Sadness and doesn't like the movie.

Easily the most imaginative and fully realised Pixar world in my mind. Such an important film that I'm sure will have an impact on future generations as it has had on ours. I don't think I'll ever not cry during that penultimate scene: Riley comes home, she confesses her feelings, she sinks into her parents' hug, the new Happy-Sad core memory forms, she lets out an exhale of solace and she realises everything is ok. I'm with Tim - it's a masterpiece.

I think what Pixar accomplished with this film was pretty amazing. I agree it is a simple story and I can see how this isn't everyone's vibe, but for me personally it hit every mark that I love in a movie. It has comedy, it's easy to follow, it involves very complex aspects that Pixar illustrated perfectly, and I can't think of a better way to display emotions (especially for children) and what happens when we begin to grow up and try to process feelings. And this is the ONLY film I have ever seen my boyfriend cry to, and no matter what, the Bing Bong moment and hugging scene always get me in the feels.

I think at this point I'd much rather the overall list be a conglomerate of everyone's personal rankings. All of these lists are starting to feel really arbitrary. Inside Out is probably my #1 though. I just think the way the themes and the message and the subject matter were all portrayed was excellent. Even though I think that in terms of enjoyment and quality of dialogue and individual characters and comedic beats its probably in the lower half - it gets brought up all the way to #1 for me.

I think this movie is brilliant, but I feel the Pete Doctor movies always kinda lack in the adventure department. The message and themes are always so strong in his movies, but then they always lack a bit of fun. Same with this movie. It’s still a great movie, but I think I would put it at 12 after Ratatouille. A strong adventure counts for so much for me.
