Join me on one of the world’s best first class flights on Singapore Airlines A380 Suites. It’s really in a class of it’s own, and by SQ’s own admission, it’s beyond First Class (I reviewed their Boeing 777 earlier this year). As with all my trip reports, I’ll take you through each step of the journey. From check in, the lounge offers and then onboard. What the food is like, and of course the bed! In fact there are two bed options today on the A380, a single or double!
As always I’ll give you my honest opinion to what it’s like to fly in one of the most luxurious flights within commercial aviation.

Fun fact: on the Boeing 747, the original intent of the hump was to install a large cocktail bar with seating area but most airlines used it to make first class very private. So I find it no surprise they are doing with with their A380. The last time I flew Singapore, the upper deck of the 747-400 was used for a premium business class. It was quite luxurious and kids got a cool jigsaw puzzle picture of the plane with the amenities kit. I liked the orange juice they gave before takeoff, it was perfect: not too sweet or sour.
@mikeklinger1712
@mikeklinger1712 Жыл бұрын
Actually the original intent for the hump had nothing to do with passenger flight! It was so the cockpit was out of the way so it could easily be modified into a cargo craft with an opening nose!

I priced the JFK-FRA round trip in SQ Suites -- nearly US$15,000. A one-way is over $9K itself, so, for economy's sake, it looks like I"ll just have to suffer through a return, Trek T.! Thanks for the review. I've flown SQ transpacitic in Business and Coach several times. (LAX-NRT/NRT-SIN/SIN-DEL/PVG-SIN, SIN-NRT-LAX and HKG-SFO.) I've done a fair bit of air travel in my day, across America MANY times and out of the Continent a fair amount, including a 16 hour flight to South Africa, and six 9 hour flights to and from Japan. Singapore Air is an absolute dream. Definitely my favorite airline of all time. Best coach food I've ever had was surprisingly on the South African Airways flight from Johannesburg to Cape Town. I would really love to see you fly on an African airline and get down in the cheaper of first class and business class options at some point.

Points, sponsored, actual cash, etc. A lot of KZbinrs do that and I think it adds some authentication to the videos. VERY true. Flying mini-apartments are what make the real bucks on megaliners like the A380. I think this is why airlines with this plane are pushing the limits of luxury vs technology with their upper deck. Also, I think their design teams are like children given a blank check and allowed to go nuts with the design in ways their fathers never dreamed was possible. LMAO...

@Don Friedman, Trek Trendy has been doing these videos for over 7 years now. So he started out small and worked his way up; this wasn't a full time job at first. Several of his videos have well over a million views which brings in a lot of money. Also, now that his channel is his full time job, the money that he spends on the cost of the tickets can be written off at the end of the year as a business expense.

Your choices are to stare at the wall (take off position), the doorway (with back to window?!), or towards the windows but too distant to see very much. Have they always been like this since Singapore Airlines bought A380s or are these new additions/upgrades to first class?
@larryjohnwong
@larryjohnwong Жыл бұрын
No. The Singapore Airlines A380 has always had first class suites, but they used to be located on the main deck in a 1-2-1 configuration with 12 of them. After they retrofitted the plane, it got a new first class suite on the upper deck in a 1-1 configuration, which was much larger than before, but there is now only 6 of them. The refitted A380s also feature a new business and economy class.

@Marie Armstrong It is potentially within the reach of almost anyone with good credit. You can earn Airline points. Get some AMEX cards, they give a lot. Buy everything with those card and pay back end of month as their APR is quite high. But you earn points. Then look for points sales. Loads of different ways. For instance, I collected over 30k Avios points just grocery shopping over the last 2 and a half years. 65k gets you a Qsuite flight from London to Qatar in Qatar Airways. That is the best business class in the world.

Not sure where you go next from this review Will. Do you have to start from the bottom again once you’ve completed the game? Can’t get any better than SQ A380 first class surely. Ryanair next week then? 😜 Also, delighted that your subscriber numbers have been flying up recently, great job 👌

The price is insane. Cannot imagine why anyone would pay that to fly. I really like the train videos, but this too was a great video!

Most people who can afford that type of flight can make the money back within a few days to a couple of weeks in a well-diversified portfolio during a good market run. In other words, they never miss it.

@@jamiecloud1897 no because it dont make economic sense to fly first class regularly. Its cheaper staying @ a top notch hotel @ your destination to ward off jet lag than paying exuberant amount of money flying in what is still a confined space for a few hours. Wealthy people have Learjet's anyway .I dont understand why anyone would fly first class . On other modes of transport yes but not on a plane

Awesome and interesting review as always, thanks for that! 👍🏻 It may have been asked a few times, but: Is there a special reason or background you always wear NASA clothes? Don't get me wrong, I like NASA "stuff", but it made me curious that's why I ask 😉 Kind regards from Germany, Philipp 👋🏻

There's almost too much luxury to receive full value from in the time you are on the plane. I do appreciate the decor, not over-the-top ornate like you find in some mideast planes. And for me, the catering had enough luxury to satisfy me. When someone devises a new luxury that can be fitted onto a plane, airlines like Singapore will install it. That said, I'm relieved that they didn't have a space-and-weight wasting shower.

I flew this suite in 2019, it was fantastic and quite affordable straight off the SA website. However, SA's business is such high tier, that I think I'd rather fly their Business then keep doing the Suite class, it was very sweet!

I was a bit confused about you taking off the mask inside the german airport. With the still ongoing mask mandate, didn’t anybody at the airport remind you of that? We all know how uncomfortable masks can be, especially while talking/walking at the same time. But you still should respect those mandates. Apart from that, it was a lovely review. Looks like a cosy experience for a longer flight. The turning chair is just extravagant 😅
