This is so sad to me. Went to my first wings game in second grade, my dad has come home from work and surprised my mom, brother, and I with jerseys and tickets. That night just flashed before my eyes. Simpler times. All just memories now :/

The echo of the electric saws in the background gives it an ominous feel to it. One thing I’ll admit, even though it’s sad that it’s going, at least it isn’t being allowed to rot. They’re doing it right; sell off what you can and scrap the rest.

I went to one of the final two games there... I've been to about 4 at the Joe and 2 at little Caesars arena. The Joe had a crazy electrifying vibe. Something about being in that building made every game seem 10x better even if the game itself was a dumpster fire. LCA is a great arena but will never replace the feeling of walking up the two story steps and staring at the Joe Louis arena sign. Too pass through those doors knowing what has been accomplished in that arena during its lifetime. For me it brought anxiety. A good type of anxiety. Brings a tear to my eye.

I worked for a guy who contracted for demos, we usually stripped theaters but occasionally did larger venues like this. I remember we were one of several companies that took out the seats rails and carpets in the old Kingdome. It was one of my first jobs as a young man and was awed by the place, they later went on to imploded the building. Yes this triggered that old memory, LOL. Cool place dude, it's always a shame to see these historic places that have so many good vibes associated with it get torn down but that's progress I guess. Glad you guys get there before it's totally gone. Hey Merry Christmas all! :)

@1AstralKing 4 жыл бұрын
Still a nice looking building, though there were lots of bottlenecks in those single-concourse arenas. Parking issues clear up quickly when you have an orderly exit that a single-concourse building just doesn’t offer. Plus the views from box level were kind of lousy. And did they maintain the roof at all??? That’s some next-level neglect.
@Polar7
@Polar7 4 жыл бұрын
They could NOT have stayed another 20, tf?? I worked there during its final year and walking around back stage during the ohl farewell to the joe, the whole lower bowl was cracking and falling apart literally. They metal stairs in place were so shotty. They desperately needed this move into LCA
@mfree80286
@mfree80286 4 жыл бұрын
When they're walking around the concourse areas take a look at the floor. Even where there aren't puddles there are stains on the flooring and concrete where other puddles have been. Place leaks like a sieve, and that really cuts the lifespan of a structure like that because the roofing and wall iron rots right along with the reinforcement in the concrete.

Salute to the Redwings and their fans from a NY Islander fan. You guys have a rich hockey tradition. We had an arena problem here on Long Island too. The Nassau Coliseum, affectionately known as “the barn” was closed for remodeling and the team moved to Brooklyn which in my opinion was a complete disconnect with the Long Island fans. Well now we are in the process of building a new hockey arena back on the Island where my Islanders belong. I grew up watching Steve Yzerman and Bob Probert. Sad to see this place go. I always loved the octopus thing in Detroit. Anyway good luck with the new arena.

Awesome! It’s always sad to see historic buildings get torn down. Love the sunset(rise?) at the end-beautiful.

So many good memories here. When I was a kid my dad got tickets to the games through work, us Steele on zug island. We would go to all the home games. And even the practices. I still have all the pucks I got too! So many good memories there.

What a super video. I don't know how you managed to remain unseen, but I guess being UrbEx specialists, you have to be good at it. Also, I want to wish you and Kristie all the very best for Christmas and can't wait to see what you have coming up in 2020.

This is a sweet video. I’m an avalanche fan but it’s still cool to see the joe like this. There’s so much history in that building.

I grew up 45 minutes outside Detroit and was fortunate enough to go to many games. Most with my dad who got seats from work now and then and from friends I played hockey with. Countless memories. My first nhl game ever... 7 years old. Playoffs vs Gretzky and the blues... Another time we would sit at the top of the bottom level behind the benches. And a couple of times the usher behind the benches came and brought me to sit right behind the glass. I'll never forget the absurd overwhelming smell of beer as a child standing inches away from my heroes.... Watching their faces come off the ice from a shift.... Yzerman, Shanahan, McCarty, I mean you know the legends... Mike comrie looked like a midget tho. I will say that. We won a little Ceasars league championship at the Joe and got to stay in the visitors locker room. (being a kid during the 90s 2000s was a dream Era for Detroit. I remember trying to recreate or re enact anything I'd ever seen on TV. (the locker room the bloodied avalanche had once resided...) I even got to do the intermission shootout as a kid. Which sadly, I did not score lol, I shot it right into his pads. Always regretted not taking my time for the deke. I was at Steve Yzermans jersey retirement ceremony... I got to sit on the glass for a season opener when Mike Modano came to Detroit. That was also the game Corey perry fought Pavel dastyuk directly in front of me. The usher had to come ask me to calm down because I was banging the glass so much. Haha The ridiculous commute to get to the Joe from cobo hall.... The trough urinals that scarred me as a young boy... The memories could go on forever and I'm so grateful for all of them. I can't wait for the red wings to rebuild and finally get the respect that we have earned over the years. It's amazing that I have lived through an Era... I now live in Florida and instead of playing hockey 5-6 days a week consuming my whole life, I play golf and music as a profession and just feel like a completely different person. It's weird. This post I think is to just express and cherish those old memories and Its a bittersweet goodbye to the joe. If I ever get a chance to buy some memorabilia like a seat I think I will. Merry Christmas everyone!

Love the entro Robb. WOW! I’m kind of liking those Ominous sounds of those saws cutting up a piece of history. As a sports fan, I’m sure there are many broken hearts out there. What are the odds? You UrbEx pros find each other in the same places? WOOHOOZIES!!! You guys got yourselves a guide. Lol. Very cool looking bar. Amazing woodwork. Have an awesome holiday. Still Obsessed....pr
