My welding teacher used to weld the joints in which the fuselage and wings meet, he mentioned that he would never get on a 747 after it turns 20 yrs. Old. Yet I'm still anxious to get inside one of this giants someday.

I know some will be surprised if I say this, but I actually didn’t mind the older NW 747-400/200 interior in economy. It always feels nice to be in an interior from the time flying was much happier. I don’t need an IFE to keep me busy on an airplane. But I guess I’m old school.

i went on this plane to hong kong and unortunately no tv on back of planes. i didn't think economy class would get personal tv until i was returning and went on a (346???) a whole new experience from the 14 years i've been living

I was on child care once and they put me up to the very front of the airplane from the very back of the airplane. it was soo cool.

NW is now Delta Air Lines and they have recently made announcements to re-fit the 747 fleet with Flat Beds in Business Elite and install AVOD in Economy.

@stejensen Well, one year after you posted this comment, and Delta has neither an order for the 773 nor the 789 and is still flying all 16 of Northwest's 747-400s.

I traveled on january on a Air China 747-400 and it look very similar, with the big screen projector. For a long journey, after a few comercial ads, you can only see the world map and the weather projected on the screen... kinda boring for a 12 hours trip (yes I took a book, mp3 player, even psp...)

I haven't flown international since 2004 and I was lucky to fly Singapore Airlines. The personal entertainment was ridiculous as was the customer service and food. Tomorrow, I will be flying to Tokyo on a Delta 747-400. Somebody told me that it is possible that I will be stuck sitting 15 hours watching the same movies on old projection screens and eating miserable food. Is this really true? I don't mind sucking it up since I don't fly much but it seems odd.

Just did a C-check on a 747-400 from J.A.L japan air lines in victorville CA cost 2.2 million for the check took all the old seats out you think they would put new seats and carpet back NO they just put the old ones from 1993 pack in.

WHY would any carrier (if not offering full First Class) put 3 business class seats together. (I.E.- midsection cabin of Delta's Business Elite). The true Delta (non NWA) Business Elite is marginal already. NWA's product basically sucks with these "cube" style seats. If you want GREAT Business Class, look at Singapore Airlines. Nothing beats it PERIOD. For that matter, nothing even comes relatively close.

Pretty ugly compared to the 800 series
