I am starting an undergraduates degree in forensic science with the hope of a career in forensic biology and also found this video very interesting and informative

Very informative! The bit about hair follicles and their roots was really striking to me

Hello! In forensics, how can one sequence DNA from sperm and compare the result to a suspect if gametic cells have a different DNA than somatic cells (due to crossing over of gametic cells)? How can one know what to look for if that's not the same sequence?
@badiah343 жыл бұрын
It is due to the loci tested in STR analysis. The haploid cells still have the 23 chromosomes which contain the loci used in autosomal STR testing. Like, a sperm cell will still have a chromosome 11 with the TH01 marker.

@@badiah34 ahh so certain loci that do NOT partake in crossing over/genetic recombination are selected for analysis as those genetic markers will remain constant between their haploid and diploid variations, correct?

If I found blood from 2 different places, can I identify both from same or different person/identity?

Yes you can identify a person with blood, if it was the answer you was waiting for. You'll know if it the same, person or not.
