Hey Jake, something I think I didn’t elaborate very well on is just how amazing a place Ranger regiment is to be, you get fantastic training, the best kit and weapons available to the military and you’re going to have top tier senior leaders as well. I don’t want to discourage people thinking it’s nothing but a meat grinder, it’s a fantastic organization, thanks again for having me on.

Jake, look up a cat named Chris VanSant. He lived the example you talk about in a way “if you go out for Ranger Regt and don’t make it you’re still an infantryman and doing Infantry shit.” VanSant made it to 3/75 but a year in got kicked out of Regt for a DUI. Went across post to 3 ID (back when they still had 3rd BDE there.) Huge culture change from Regt but he was still an 11B. Spent a couple of years there, nearly dropped a separation packet. But he instead re-enlisted for 82nd Airborne, got it…. Was contemplating dropping an SF packet, but wound up trying out for CAG instead…. Didn’t make it the first time, came back a year later and made it in CAG. Great story as far as grit, resilience, and proof to your point “if something goes wrong you’re still an Infantryman….”

Jake is the man. I watched his videos in 2019 while I was trying to become an 1811. I called him and he sat down with me and told how much I needed to run. Needless to say, I went to my academy killed my running at 6'3 220 pounds and was named class leader. Developed a tough mindset because of that man. I ran six times week. Sprints MWF. 5 mile runs on TR. 10 mile run on Saturday. Freaking sucked but after several months you get really good. You get skinny and start freaking flying on the road. Most importantly you get mentally tough! I know you don't remember me Jake but thank you man. Changed my life.

The only thing I feel that would turn most ppl off is the “hazing” getting jumped isn’t fun getting jumped by 5 rangers on ur VERY FIRST DAY 😂 like wat are we accomplishing except extra tbi. I think that’s a big problem in the military as a whole, relatively harmless pranks are one thing, but beating and jumping ppl is high school/frat bs

My wife’s uncle was in 3rd Batt from ‘96-‘03. He went through SFAS and got selected in 2001 and was getting ready for the Q-Course when 9/11 happened. He got his orders changed and went back to the Regiment because he figured the war wasn’t going to last long. Later on he and a couple other guys got kicked out of the Regiment for beating the shit out of 2 Egyptian soldiers that tried to kidnap his drunk buddy. This was not too long after his company captured Haditha Dam during the Invasion of Iraq. He later went on to become a BlackWater contractor and did that until 2015, but he said Ranger School was a relief because he was getting smoked and beat up everyday for 6 months straight in the Regiment

Basic training was easy compared to what I was doing in the 101st airborne. In basic they have you do a 20 mile road march with 50lbs in a rucksack. In the 101st I had to do 25 miles carrying 140lbs and that was up and down hills in the woods. During my deployment to Kosovo in year 2000 I was put on infantry duty since my platoon was giving a neighborhood in the city of Vitina to enforce martial law in. They had me going house to house for weeks kicking down doors looking for weapons. My videos of that deployment are on my KZbin channel which include house and vehicle search footage.

If you’re an E-5 or below import from big army to Ranger batt, you better come with your fucking hands up ready to kill. They will try anything and everything to break you. They want people that grew up in battalion, drinking the theoretical Ranger Kool-aid. We had an e-5 import who, during a longer run right before we got back to the company our squad leader told us to choke him out so we did. Three of us privates against a former 82nd recon dude, choked his ass out. When he woke up he got told he was a bitch and what did he think he was doing here, and we finished the run back to the company. That’s one example. He had to dig his heels to stay in.

If you show up with a tab you better know your shit, the standards for you will be a lot higher but if you have a deployment patch and a tab you probably wont be treated like a cherry bitch, well, maybe i guess it depends on who youre serving with and who you deployed with (an 82nd or 173rd deployment probably yields some respect) the scroll without the tab doesnt mean much, and the same goes for a tab without the scroll. A lot of senior leadership usually end up leading in the aforementioned airborne units, my old csm at the 173rd was a scrolled and tabbed ranger, csm farrussi.

Two 👍 👍 WAY UP on this content. Ranger Battalion ain't no joke. Be careful what you wish for. Also, for those who want to go CAG, it's FAR more intense on a day to day basis. Pat Mcnamara, a Delta operator, said a guy with 10 years in CAG reported himself for an accidental discharge when no when was around on the weekend, and they gave him a year off. Pat also said he would bring his kids to work on Saturday afternoons and let them run around while he practiced on the range for 10 extra hours. It's sometimes better to live vicariously.

It’s a huge issue in battalion (and from what I understand other socom units) A lot of people get kicked out for alcohol related issues. It’s a thorny issue not many talk about because a lot of people, including leadership are drinking alot. if your not careful it can get you in trouble fast! This is legit how it works in the Infantry too. The real fuck fuck games dont start until you get to your unit. I lived next to 2/75 at Lewis. So my battalion took a lot of inspiration from the rangers there. Also had a squad leader who got 3 duis so they kicked him out of regiment and he came to my infantry platoon. Also, just realized you were with the 2/75th! What years were you there? Do you remember a Sgt. Cioli from ranger batt at lewis? He was my squad leader at 4/9 infantry and came from ranger batt. 3 duis in a very short period of time lol.

Thank you for your service man. Mad respect for you guys. For these “cock fights” did they pair you up with people your size and who decided who fought with who? Were the good fighters respected more? How much sleep did you get?

I haven't been home in years, which is TN. He wasn't lying about the heat with humidity 😂😂. When i played rugby and football up there you'd be cooking. You can even be outside just talking and then 5 mins later, you're sweating

Whoa-Wow! PT/Training/PT, then you get squared off and fight another dude! So youre never a "made-member", you always gotta stay on top of your game. I cant imagine guys do that for more then a few years? That would just wear on ya over time I would imagine. Much respect tho, geez. Yeah, it makes sense that all the SF groups are basically he same base level, just certain specialties.I imagine Rangers probably dont have to go swimming much, and SEALs dont have to usually attack, take, and hold airfields...I guess...usually. hehe. Great one as always, Mr. Zweig!

I wonder what other mos within regiment are like. While at JBLM the PT being conducted by 25 series or 92series seem ed quite manageable for any high speed soldier (from I observed from my own runs/ruck routes that sometimes overlapped) Supporting the mission is of much greater value than the title to me, And I really wanna be part of that mission in support. I was disappointed of PT and training standards when I enlisted which pushed me to officer route, but I realize maybe it’s not the mos or rank, maybe it was the units I’ve been assigned too in the past?

Everyone in Regiment must pass and be selected from RASP to get in and once you do so and are assigned to Regiment you are a Ranger and held to Ranger Standards reguardless of your MOS or job even Support Enablers at Ranger Regiment are Rangers this is different than for example that SF where you have 20,937 people in the 1st Special Forces Command( that includes all 7 SF Groups, Civil Affairs and PSYOPs and only 6,000 are Green Berets. On the Support side there are some operational teams full of peoples that could and probably should be considered opperators in there own right and operate with ODAs and independantly on their own they are however not SF Qualified for the most part all though some might be Green Berets who just decided they liked that job more for what ever reason. These teams have to do with Intelligence Support.

There are 6600 Green Berets altogether. 5,500 active duty and 1,100 in two National SF Groups not one. Those are 19th and 20th Groups. There are however 20,937 people in all 7 SF Groups so like every place else they have far more support than opperators. On the Intelligence side of SF Support they have Tactical Intelligence Teams that function very much like ODAs that while not tabbed Green Berets( though some might be) are opperators in their own right. They are similar to RRC in nature.
