I had big dreams of going Ranger and SF when I joined the Army. But I was young and dumb and lost control with alcohol. Thankfully I got through my contract with an honorable discharge, but looking back, my biggest regret is not pushing myself to see how far I could have made it in the Army. When I came through RIP and went into 2/75 with a tab, I felt like I made it. I can finally relax, I got comfortable in that position. I will say I have never seen my original beret. You did amazing things to the rest of the world, but in Regiment you have done the exact minimum as your peers. And it only pushes forward at a strong and steady pace. I'd say earn your voice before sharing an opinion. I lucked out on phrasing g. When asked what my input was, as a new Ranger, I would Respond, "Due to lack of experience, I advise that we refer to your expertise..." It goes a long way to be humble and eloquent. Understanding that uninformed advice will be life critical due to the nature and needs of the Regiment. Your humble pie waits every morning. Proud but wise!

Dang, crap has changed since I was at the 1st Bn. Back in the 90’s, as long as you didn’t get a DUI, you were good to go. The bar fights alone were legendary in Savannah. There were some bars if you had the Ranger high and tight you didn’t get in. And, we PT’d twice a day. The Four Day Weekends were very frequent. Training deployments rarely lasted more than two weeks. I can only assume the hazing we reviewed has greatly diminished since the Regiment has apparently become a more professional force instead of the insane wolverines we were back then? I came from Korea in Superman shape as an E-3 and rocked Airborne School and RIP. Running and gunning the mountains and hills in Korea turned my legs into thoroughbred horse legs. Running PT in Ga. was a joke after that.

Some of the best PT I have ever had was in a leg unit in Korea…..the bugles! The hill runs! I firmly believe my year in Korea toughened me up for RIP. My 1st contract was only 2 years and MEPS didn’t have any Ranger contracts left. So, my recruiter advised that I take a 11X with Korea in a two year contract. Best thing I ever did. After my 1 year window opened, I re-enlisted with Airborne and RIP in my contract. I was an E-3 with a shitload of field experience and was a PT stud. By the time I got to Airborne School, I was outperforming the Marines there and was honor grad) then RIP, I firmly believed that year in Korea made all of the difference. Camp Casey made Cole Range easier in me than the lot coming from AIT and Airborne School.

so i’m not a ranger (yet) but i did go through OSUT as a 11B. The Big thing with diet is to eat clean. no fast food and no chips. eat clean protein. at least .8oz per pound of body weight. eat lots of fruits and veggies and drink half your body weight in fluid ounces of water. Potassium and Magnesium will help your body recover. Sleep 8 hours a day. Working out. the big thing in osut is moving under load. ruck if you have a ruck. Once per week 35lbs for 6miles at a pace that doesn’t kill you by the 3rd mile. bodyweight exercises, you’ll do a ton of those in OSUT. Push-ups, Chin ups, Wall sits, mountain climbers. do weightlifting as well For running. try to run three miles in zone 2 heart rate (or at a pace you can maintain a conversation). once per week. Then do 30/60s once per week. a 30/60 is a hard sprint/run for 30 seconds and a brisk walk for 60. so your week should look something like this mon. Ruck Tuesday. Lifting Wednesday. Bodyweight and 6 30/60s Thursday Lifting Friday. Rest Saturday: 3 mile run and bodyweight training Sunday: Lift your body will adapt quickly in OSUT. you’ll have PT every day during the week and eat three meals a day of good (nutritionally speaking) food. i knew guys prepping for RASP would do an extra workout every night if they didn’t feel pushed by the morning PT. the big thing they couldn’t get in OSUT was cardio

@zachthedangerranger2 жыл бұрын
I don't have family time myself within Regiment, but had soldiers under me who were married. You do and you don't have family time. I know, kind of vague. The training cycle/readiness cycle is it's own animal with no regards to outside influences like holidays that the rest of the Army gets to enjoy. There will be some Christmases and other holidays where you will be deployed or other wise unable to travel with family. The training cycle is also very intensive, with odd hours and working through weekends. That being said, the Battalions do a good job of compensating you for your time with three and four day weekends after particularly intensive training events. I'd estimate at least once a month. Additionally, you are guaranteed two 16-18 day periods of leave every year, where Regiment will do their best to time around holidays. Unfortunately, you aren't allowed to pick and choose the time you take leave outside of legitimate family emergencies. I hope this answered your question, if you have more specific questions feel free to hit me up on Instagram @zachallredofficial

At 2/75 bunch of us were hazed a lot and if you were not a combat arms MOS you were considered a softcore MOS. It sucked. This was shortly after Granada and before Somalia. Things changed just a little over time but still sucked.

@globalwarmingsimplified90822 жыл бұрын
That's a curious comment. Tillman was KIA, and possibly by friendly fire. His mother and wife wrote a book about him. He gave up a professional football contract to join the army after 9/11; I would expect that he excelled as a Ranger. He was also an intellectual, which would probably qualify him as a "modern Renaissance Man."

How would you recommend to train for ranger Rgt and ranger school?
@globalwarmingsimplified90822 жыл бұрын
Read. Train. Stay away from games, gossip, and wasting time. Read when you can read. You need to train your mind if you really want to do it. Read whenever possible. If you're bored reading, find something to read that you want to read because reading widely also trains your mind; then reading training material becomes easier; use pencils and pens to underline keywords and sentences, write in the margins so that you can briefly page through your reading and reinforce your memory by reading margin comments and your underlining. It's good training for your reading and thinking for life in general

Incredibly disappointing to hear that it’s a heavy drinking culture. Why does alcohol have to infect everything?
@shootingbricks85542 жыл бұрын
It's quite common in the military. Drinking is encouraged. I personally seen alcohol related issues in the Army and Marines.
@globalwarmingsimplified90822 жыл бұрын
It's cultural for one, and it quickly becomes a habit. FYI, the women's movement in the US began as a result of alcoholism; miners drank their pay on Friday nights as they walked home from the mines. It goes way back. It is best not to drink at all because too many of us make a habit out of it, and soon it's an addiction. I know. It's better to read and write about life, philosophy, and such, or at least have a hobby like music instruments, or anything else. Cheers!

Is 2/75 still known as '2nd Aryan' on Ft. Lewis, or is it a little less neo-Nazi these days? My first night there I had to listen to a soldier talk about how much he hated having an N-word as BN CSM (CSM H.R.). Then he talked about holocaust denial. Then a team leader (SGT N.L.) named his fire team 'Aryan Team'. Hispanic Corporal from AZ (CPL J.A.) didn't like that too much. I saw someone reading 'The Turner Diaries'. Then going to see 'friends' in Idaho (Hayden Lakes/Aryan Nations). One solider (SPC M.S.) was talking about having 'My Honor is My Loyalty' (SS motto) tattooed on him. The irony was lost on them that they espoused views which many of their predecessors died fighting on beaches of Normandy. Many of these soldiers had never achieved anything in life other than get through RIP (which was easy) and then their tab, and felt that a Ranger tab made them better than Delta and bullied and hazed people non-stop. I was RFS'd from that hellhole for LOM went down the road and did fine. Got out with my GI money and got an BS in Mechanical Engineering and never looked back.

We are on the same page; I don't understand what's happening today. My first fire team leader was KIA a few feet from me in a place called "Hobo Woods." He was black as were other soldiers in my squad, 1st bat, 503ed, 173rd. Now today I'm watching veterans trying to kill our democracy. I makes no sense; I watch the D-Day invasion movies and videos, Iwo Jima and the rest, and wonder what the hell are people thinking that they're pissing away?

There's a lot going on in married life, and add that to married life in the army and you have a lot going on for you and your family. I figure that you want income security with benefits; the army makes sense for you as any branch. But, life in the military means many months apart from the family, suspicion, and the rest. Sure join and do something that you feel confident about achieving. Do that first before hooking up with a demanding life beyond necessary. Non-combat arms, non-combat jobs, work too. If you're serious about the army, learn this frontwards and backward before leaving. You may not use it, but it will help prepare your intellect for the intellectual side of the army. irp.fas.org/doddir/army/ranger.pdf
@globalwarmingsimplified90822 жыл бұрын
@@zachthedangerranger Good advice; his family may be the reason he wants to join. I had a company commander who disliked the army; he was a leg captain in communications. He was a great guy. He wanted out of the army but had to stay because he had two kids, a boy, and a girl, and both were born blind. By remaining in they had full access to medical at Walter Reed. I ETS days before he was to leave for a tour in VN, 1968. Yes, the army has some security for families, and it's best to succeed at something for them, but striving for the regiment while carrying the new family burden does not sound wise. You are doing good counseling here, by the way.
