P.T. Barnum was America's most famous promoter -- and in recent years, his life has been getting a fresh look. Two years ago, there was a movie starring Hugh Jackman; this year, author Robert Wilson published a book called "Barnum, an American Life." Jeff Glor joined Wilson for a tour through Barnum’s legacy.

They tame the elephants using fear. They always have someone standing there that the elephants were afraid of to control them. I spoke to a truck driver that drove elephants for years describing how they were treated while crying silently and claiming his guilt for witnessing it and not acting
@myman8336
@myman8336 5 жыл бұрын
That's one of the ways people tame beasts.. Fear, reward, watching of parents etc.. Fear produces the best result but can leave the animal with high stress while reward often has a less desirable effect especially with the more aggressive animals..

"Barnum should be judged by the standards of his time, and how he changed" - God, this means so much in today's cancel culture.
@Juliet_Capulet
@Juliet_Capulet 3 жыл бұрын
Sort of. Today, we supposedly know better. Until just a few years ago, the standards of our own time were well above what they plummeted to under "it's cool to be bigoted/asinine/rude again." If we judge people today by the standards *of our own time* then a large percentage of us are shameful. We don't even have Barnum's excuse.
@NoOne-kr4jc
@NoOne-kr4jc Жыл бұрын
@@Juliet_Capulet Yeah _supposedly_ as you said. There's no balance and we are constantly looking for problems. I hope later generations will understand how unnecessary the politically correct mindset is. There are some good things it does, as anything unhealthily overdone can accomplish. However it is creating issues where there aren't issues. I think we have to be tough. I think we are focusing too much on how we talk and we should focus that energy on other things, like trying to change government.

What a horrific “journalist” creating a hate “mock” piece ONLY to have it backfire. No wonder no one takes him seriously or with any credit. I’ve already forgotten his name. He owes his ENTIRE career to this shrewd 7min KZbin video. The only “memory” of his pathetic existence and yet all to be forgotten and the intelligence to see clearly beyond his cheap polluted clouds into the amazing that was Barnum. People will continue to speak and learn about the incredible human Barnum. This cub reporters name already forgotten has Barnum to thank for his 5 mins of fame for if it wasn’t for Barnum he would have never been seen. A most un-valuable site only to be seen from an invaluable individual. In his death Barnum still is able to bring attraction to things that are of no value although this instance by accident and without any interest or intention.

So basically PT barmun was a guy who tried to help poeple understand different poeple but it ended up like a freakshow and poeple saw them as "monster" He used a little kid who he only hired for 4 week incase he grew taller (tom thumb was suppose to be a dawf but he was 5) The 161 was half that age (she died around 80 years) He lied for the fame and money Poeple compare him to donald Trump Pt Barmun made poeple judge different poeple (It still happens today :( Where do you think "The greatest showman" came from? Yep it was inspired by PT barmun
