Inside the most notorious hood in Lagos, Nigeria
Today we are in a neighborhood in Lagos Nigeria called Mushin .This video is inside the most notorious hood in Lagos Nigeria. This neighborhood is by far the most dangerous .Lagos is crazy but on contrary to beliefs sometimes the people/vendors in rough places in Lagos are very the most humble and nice. This the slums of Nigeria

Ayyyyyy!!! This is my hood!!! I was raised in Mushin, but I currently reside in California in the United States. It's wonderful to see my neighborhood featured in the media, and it's encouraging to see how much progress has been made despite the fact that much more needs to be done. I appreciate you highlighting regions of Africa that people don't frequently get to see. Awesome work 👍

I grew up in Mushin. Those guys they call Area Boys were uncles to me growing up. They would whoop me when I skip school, they attended my basketball matches, loyal to their own. Looking back, school made me book smart, but Mushin made me street smart. Living better now, but I never forget to respect the streets.

I am 48 now and my father took us there when I was 8 years old. Being white and coming from Romania in a such diffrent civilzation had a great impact on us. I stayed less than a year, my father remained for a few years and it was certainly not easy for him. But for me it is one my great and beautifull childhood memories.

Stockfish is unsalted dried codfish. During the Nigerian civil war 1967-1970 Norwegian stockfish was flown in to Biafra ( present day Southeastern Nigerian) where people needed protein-rich foods especially children. Millions of Biafran children suffered from kwashiorkor because of lack of protein and many starved to death. After the war stockfish because a staple in cooking soups in pretty much of Nigeria. In the early 1990s, I worked in Mushin as an Optometrist providing eyecare to the people at Victory Eye Hospital. Czech, thank you for taking me back memory lane. Enjoy Lagos

lol We all do because our TV has been riddled with American stuff since the 70s from the Jeffersons to Stanford and Son all the way to date, name any TV show and we gon pull up a plethora of programs including different strokes. Name any Hip-hop artist from the 70s to date, we know it all. That is because each time a record is dropped in the states we get to watch it on Yo MTV raps, Rapacity music box from tapped cables back then,. we also had access to right-on magazines and of course source magazines . Don't get fooled by our environment, it's totally different from how our brain box works once we see an opportunity.

One of the thing I remember from a month-long visit to Germany a few years ago was how I was able to find some really, really good deals on food at the grocery story. Usually it was stuff that simply had to be sold that day or thrown away, and it was marked down considerably. If you wanted to, you could simply walk to the grocery store every day, buy whatever was on sale, and just make a day's worth of meals out of that. There's just not an equivalent system where I live in the US. Grocers would rather throw food away than to heavily discount it.

Great video. Walking is a good way to see and feel an area. Years ago in DC I was awaiting for the bus and it was very cold . A car with about 5 Nigerian men offered me a ride to my dorm. I hitched the ride and they were the nicest group of guys and we remained friends for years while I was at Howard University. I have always wanted to visit the country. I always found the Nigerians as comfortable as the South Carolinians- something about their culture is familiar to the Gullah that I come from.

Interesting connection between Callejon de Hamel in your Havana Cuban video and the part of Nigeria that you're in for this video. The language your guides are speaking to the locals is Yoruba and the music and cultural dances at the Callejon de Hamel are Yoruba in origin. The Callejon de Hamel performers have dances and songs dedicated to Yoruba deities such as Elegba/Eshu, Yemoja, Oshun and Sango. Another interesting fact is that hundreds of formerly enslaved Afro Cubans returned to Lagos in the late 19th century at the end of Cuban slavery up until the early 20th century.

Czech, kudos to you for this beautiful video. I grew up and have lived in Lagos almost all of my life. Over 4 decades. Yet, I am always wary of getting into Mushin hood--fear, paranoia, etc...I give you a lot of respect for this bold and interesting visit by you all the way from the States. Bravo and many thanks!
