I like Chuck's point about Luke being setup to fail. He's spot on! The Lakers want to win now and develop their young guys. That's not going to happen. We've seen players in the past grow more when they play more minutes, like Oladipo in Indiana, Westbrook and Durant in OKC a few years back. Talented players need minutes and the freedom to make mistakes and learn from them. These young cats on the Lakers don't have that freedom because Magic wants to win now. Contradicting philosophy and Chuck is right, along with Chris Broussard who mentioned this on The Herd.

@Valerie Coton That's exactly what it is. Winning now means the focus is on winning and not developing players. You can't possibly do both. The only other way that can happen is if there is an established winning culture in place, i.e. Boston. Otherwise the process is going to look like Philadelphia a couple years back, Phoenix, or even OKC back in 2007-2010. There is no in between! The only reason that's the goal is because Lebron is on the team.

Chuck is right about Lebron not changing now. This poses a HUGE problem for the Lakers as well as makes Stephen A's hollering seem all the more inevitable. That is, that if Lebron has the ball more, then Lonzo isn't utilized properly, which makes sense for him and someone else of value (most likely Ingram) to be traded. For whom? Beal seems like a likely candidate. Can shoot outside, score, defend, etc. Maybe trade for A.D. to patch up the inside defense so lebron and co. can focus more on perimeter defense (which has been a MAJOR issue all season long).

Lebron is a ball-dominant player -- which can transcend sub-par to good teams. But against high IQ teams that have a real system of offense + talent, it does NOT work (i.e. Finals record). But since there are so many fan boys, they cannot see him doing any wrong. His defense (stops, +/-, opposing FG %, etc.) is among the WORST in the league -- he will be a liability because of this refusal to change and because of people's fear of challenging the status quo.

Its a lot to do with Lebron not playing well especially on defense and that rubs off on the team. It’s been consistent through Lebrons career, especially more recently. Whatever team he’s on often has lapses during games, and I think it has a lot to do with what it’s like to be his teammate. He doesn’t always make his teammates feel empowered and confident. Instead he puts too much pressure on them. Then they start to have a lapse and lebron gets mad at them (whether it’s passive or not it’s always obvious) and puts ALL the blame on them. All of a sudden they have had another one of those quarters where they go missing. This is why their lapses are worse and longer than average. He really isn’t as much of a team player as everyone seems to think he is. Just because you average a lot of assists, doesn’t make you unselfish. Especially when you get so much praise for your passing. Sometimes he gets more recognition for a pretty standard late game assist than the person who actually made the clutch 3 or whatever the case may be. SMH
