@greyeaglem2 жыл бұрын
@@maureenhansen3308 Yes. As a kid I was surprised to find it in the school library because of the theme. Back then they tended to whitewash everything, so finding a book about kids in gangs was really rare. It's still a favorite of mine. Read it again a couple of years ago. There was another book too called That Was Then, This is Now but it's not as gripping as The Outsiders.

I used to live in Tulsa! Man, one night some friends and I were driving around and we noticed a big fire in the direction that we were driving. As we got closer we realized it was the Admiral Twin, the drive in theater made famous by the Outsiders. It was a gut wrenching moment. The next day every business in Tulsa had a jar out for donations to rebuild the theater. It didn't take long, we are proud of our history in this state. I even used to work at a place in the blue dome district called Joe Momma's Pizza, the alley behind Joe Mommas is one of the alleys used in the film as well. I haven't been to the house since it became a museum, but I remember when the current owner bought it and started renovations!

I still own our Save the Admiral Twin t-shirts we purchased to help the fundraising effort. That theater has been a staple of my life since I was 7. I was rolling by on I-244 when I saw the screens on fire. I pulled over and watched it burn. It was gut wrenching.

Tulsan here. You really missed out on Danny giving the tour. His story of how he even came to own the house is pretty amazing. My boss donated money when it was first getting off the ground. I first toured right after the restoration had finished, and there were just a hand full of artifacts. To see it now is amazing! The house was days away from being bought by Habitat for Humanity and they were going to demolish it and build two homes on the lot. Danny was able to pull its from them and buy it. So crazy to think that there was less than a week left for this house to have been lost forever. Been a huge fan of your videos for years, but somehow just saw this on in my hometown! Great job. Keep up the good work!

Tulsa is my hometown and I loved living there. The Outsiders filmed when I was six years old and I have vivid memories watching the filming as they shot several things less than a block from my house. The author of the book, SE Hinton lived in my neighborhood and we use to trick or treat at her house on Halloween. I also was an extra and watched a lot of the filming of UHF. Most fun part was watching them film the alley fight scene from Gandhi II from the window of the building my Dad was working in. It is a cool town for sure.
