Well this is over the top. a) Many shooters are students themselves, so it's not like the cameras would give early detection b) Hallways are empty in this reporting video, but they're jam-packed during a normal school day. Plenty of targets still. c) Because shooters can blend in, now an entire class is stuck with a shooter in a room police can't access because the door is fortified and bulletproof. d) That seems like normal smoke, with the goal being to obscure the kids. But the problem is that shooters are there to shoot indiscriminately. Just because they can't see the kids doesn't mean they're safe. e) Windows are a thing f) This is $400,000 per school lol. Ignoring the details of their design for a minute, on a broader scale, it's still not feasible because of cost. We don't have $400,000 to give every school in every county in every state in the country.
@reneewendt7247 жыл бұрын
Dorothy Geldhof: I agree with you. Obviously, any objector who complains that a 99% improvement in safety is nuts. Besides that, the cameras are constantly working, and there is security at the limited entrances to the school, plus the school is monitored by cameras and technological improvements. If my children were still in school, I would want them to have this type of security. I personally have shared this video on my social media, and have encouraged the NRA (who say they are responsible about safety) to stop buying votes in Congress, but rather, be responsible enough with your money to set up a program that brings safety to our schools across America.

As person that has survived an active shooter I can tell you that none of that will save you, the locked door may buy you time. The smoke isn’t going to matter because the shooter will shoot indiscriminately and it will only slow down the police because now they don’t know if other kids are in the smoke. The cameras will help police find the majority of you after you have been shot. That red line, your desk and a book isn’t bullet proof. Your better off putting a window in every room and telling a kid to jump out and run.
@donnaholladay4942 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. Locked doors fine, but they can be broken into I image by being shot up with an AR. Security, the killer has element of surprise, dead. Cameras, can be shot out not to mention inattentive or sleeping monitors. The time it took them to get out of their seats, put those desks into position and get behind the red line, probably a half a dozen of them are shot in that time frame. Why are the buzzers always near the door, that’s what it looks like, which is right in the line of fire?

Agreed it's definitely not a good environment for learning if I had kids I would send them to a private school or even home school them to avoid that environment. The money would be better spent on preventing children from becoming school shooters in the first place and fixing the gutted mental healthcare system. What we have is Reagan's legacy of denationalization and the over use of medication to treat mental health problems. One easy thing I think would more than halve the number of shootings would be to ban the prescription of SSRIs to children under 18. Another have recent use of mental health drugs be one of the things they do a back ground check for when someone buys a firearm.
@paigehc66596 жыл бұрын
@@Patchuchan it's actually a GREAT environment for kids. It teaches us how to watch out for ourselves and to make sure that we are safe at all costs. Yes, school shootings are bad, however they do help when it comes to teaching kids how to watch out for themselves, which is something all students should do. Ugh, I am disgusted at how many security measures we have to put up just to keep people safe. I remember one time my school got a shooter threat and I was so scared. Even though our vice principal made an announcement saying it was alright and suspect had been taken care of, parents still came to pick the kids up. At the end of the day it was just me and a few other students that hadn't been picked up by their parents. My mom didn't know anything about the threat because she was in the hospital at the time.

I wish my school was like this because when we do lockdown drills in my school the teachers and students keep talking loudly as don’t care. Also my school has like multiple entrances and exits which can be accessed by anyone I know because kids leave and comeback during lunch. We literally have no security guards and the school is always open and unlocked during the weekends and summers without anyone except for janitors. Our welcome center is always empty with no greeters sitting there causing parents to just walk straight into the school and when kids leave early they don’t even check if they have a slip. My school isn’t even broke or underfunded they’re just lazy.

@davidwilson48967 жыл бұрын
Buk Choi definitely OSHA violations oh and the students forgot to put the target t-shirts on it's awesome how they all huddled together so once the shooter gets through that door they make it nice and easy to mow them all down the shooter doesn't even have to aim meanwhile the teacher could just throw her a little panic button at the shooter that'll stop em maybe they could just threaten the shooter with detention most Shooters will stop when you point out that murder is illegal and they're not legally allowed to have that firearm in school but if they hurry up and get out of there you won't say anything usually when they find out it's illegal to have a firearm in school and that murder is illegal most Shooters will leave voluntarily
