This is an incredible vlog Sam. My dad is currently very very ill and probably hasn't got long to be with us. He went to school with Bobby Lennox. Bobby Lennox and some of the 67 team came to Ardrossan to visit his dad (my grandfather who I never met) in 1968 when he was dying from cancer. It was the moment of his life. My grandfather was a prolific writer and one of his letters to the Glasgow Herald was printed about Celtic's shirts not being visible due to the hoops. He recommended numbers should be placed on the shorts. They were soon after. He never claimed the fact they did put the numbers on the shorts as fact but he always told the story. Anyway, I will play this video to my dad tomorrow. He will smile from ear to ear. Thanks Sam.

The finals of the Portuguese Cup are in Estádio Nacional like in England are in Wembley or in Scotland are in Hampden Park. The stadium is pratically the same as when Celtic won the European Cup, but it didn't have seats or artificial light that time. And the stadium had only minor renovations, not for lack of money, but because it is a monument to a period in portuguese history. There is even a discussion about whether the cup finals should be held in there because of the lack of security and conditions, but it is still the stage for the finals to this day.

There is world away from bigotry and hatred and fans from the two clubs are often pals despite what is written in the press and on websites. There is an interesting story on that stadium, every year Portuguese Cup, the final is played there, it is amazing because of the history on that stadium and it is played there since the beginning. The location is perfect because people spend the day doing barbecues on the park and then walk to the stadium. The atmosphere is amazing! You need to go to one of those matches or search KZbin videos about it, it is worth it! The problem is that the Federation is moving the cup to Coimbra stadium because of the age of the stadium

Very unusual design of the stadium, having the open side along one long side of the pitch. Also, “il Grande Torino”, the great Torino side of the late 1940’s, played a testimonial match here for a retiring player; it was their last match as on returning to Turin their plane crashed into the mountain with a basilica on top, due to fog; all aboard, including all starting 11 of Torino, died in the crash. The Torino coach was waiting at the Milan airport thinking that the pilot would go to the alternate airport due to the fog. (The son of one of the players would go on and have a great career in his own right later.) That Torino team was so dominate in the Italian league they had started all ten outfield players (other than the keeper) for the national team! It is still revered today as one of the great club teams, not just in Italian history. (Worth looking into for a future video)

If you want to go to the stadium do it soon, they are planning a £25m refurb soon (within the next year). I was there February 2024 and it is such a special place, as a fan it it is incredible the feelings that it generates. its a bit out of the centre of Lisbon (about 10-12km) but the taxis are reasonably priced. I think they call it Estadio Jamon as it is in the Jamon region. When we got there another couple from Cumbernauld turned up and we bunged the security man to let us in to take some photos, he also opened up the locker room that Celtic used. only had to bung him as he was the only one there at the time or we could wait till the other guy came off his break but we had a taxi on the clock. Well worth a visit for any Celtic fan.

portuguese cup finals are played there for many reasons. It's the classic cup final stadium, a monument basically. Also the surroundings are filled with fans grilling and having beers before the game. And when I say before the game I mean 6AM people are already mounting the grills (i know a dude that went at 4AM just to save a spot). Games are usually at 3PM/5PM. The whole experience is called the "festa da taça" or "cup party". In recent years smaller teams made their way into the final and have won it against the big three. Portuguese cup finals are something else.
