Another psychologist/ family expert I follow has a saying that's pertinent to a lot of these problems. "It's very important that parents become comfortable with their child being uncomfortable". So many of these parents think terrible things will occur if their kid's upset. It won't
@marylyn66
@marylyn66 2 жыл бұрын
Words to raise children by. When I was raising mine in 80 & 90s all parents had meals at table where children ate their food or went without until next meal. Bad behavior had them sent from the table. Bedtime was set time and children never shared parents beds. We left them to cry themselves to sleep and sometimes they got upset and exhibited the troubled breathing card. They kept on breathing somehow and slept on their own. Children followed set consistent rules or were disciplined and they cried. Sometimes the bike was taken away for a few days or similar punishment and they cried but we were not swayed. The result - 4 self supporting law abiding happy adults who can manage their lives including families and careers with acceptance, fortitude and intelligence. I spoiled my children with love and time. I'm always there for them still and they're in their 30's. It's a parents responsibility to guide children to take care of themselves and draw strength from themselves and not to think they are entitled to everything they want. They have to work for it.

I'm watching this to see if I can wrap my brain around extremely picky/finicky set of sibling boys, 10 and 2. The older boy is the one I tutor, and he's got a bad cycle of constipation, allergies all year round, sinus blockages, and ADHD that is hindering his learning. I was asked to stay for dinner with the toddler and the dad the other night. OMG 😱 the lack of parental consistency to say No was obvious. The desperate mom kept apologizing and laughing nervously about how her whiny, finicky, terrible two wouldn't eat anything except noodles and blue berries. And she doesn't realize that all at once, she says no to Pringle's chips and allows him to eat it because the older brother foolishly started eating it--AFTER HE JUST HAD DINNER. So the older brother is openly munching away while apologizing profusely, yet not giving his chips up anytime soon. Very manipulative move of him, I thought. And this whole time, the dad is laughing and not really in charge of anything. He continues to enjoy pleasant adult conversation with me, their tutor. I'm a mom of a grown daughter and a few other kids from a blended family. I've been a babysitter since 11, and have seen countless households and kids in peril with health (physical and mental) issues. My conclusion: Unless the child has severe autism or congenital birth defects, the reason for kids' having issues is because one or both parents/guardian will give into the child's whims at all cost. Parents think that the child is so helpless and will die of hunger if a meal is missed. They won't. Kids are way more resilient than they give them credit.

When you see a small child whose behavior is impressive rest assured that that child at some has displayed the same behavior seen in Dr Tanya's videos. The difference happens when parents fail to nip things in the bud with firm, fair and clear discipline instead of indulging the child until the problem festers and you get kids like this.

Instead of giving children ice cream, give them smoothies you can easily change junk food into healthy food
@pinkmonkeybird2644
@pinkmonkeybird2644 2 жыл бұрын
But that’s really not a long-term solution. You have to teach your children to eat a balanced diet and teach them that vegetables, legumes, and fruits are an important component of a healthy diet. If you hide vegetables in sweet smoothies or blended sauces full of cheese, they never develop a recognition that they are part of a good diet or for the relatively strong taste of them. And you lead by example. Everyone in the house eats peas, beets, green beans, squash, no exceptions. Yes, for toddlers you need to offer it multiple times before they may accept it, but if you don’t have junk food in the house, everyone eats the same dinner together, and you stress the need for good things to build a healthy body, it shouldn’t be an issue. My husband only likes a few vegetables, but he ate every single one we cooked to show my children that it’s all very normal to eat green things. Now that our kids are grown, he no longer eats summer squash or beets, two things he really hates. But for 18 years he ate them without complaint and as a result, my children quite enjoy both of those vegetables, along with a host of others from artichokes to seaweed.

That’s not the answer, and will only contribute to the problem. Children need to use their teeth and jaw muscles to chew and swallow solid food, because you need those muscles to develop speech. Also, when you purée fruits and vegetables, you get rid of the fiber, and in doing so, you eliminate many of the nutrients. Children need to eat solid food! That is why we have teeth.

@@globalwarmhugs7741 ha ha. Well fortunately my 37th anniversary is approaching so my 4 weren't raised by single mom. But you are right if you are saying I do need to consider how incredibly challenging it must be to raise children on ones own. Four children, two of them energetic twin boys would be particularly daunting. But I was not attacking Lisa's character. After each episode I admired Lisa's parenting, even when she struggled with being happy playful mommy because her children weren't suffering from a lack of basic life skills that brings most small children to the HOTT and I mentioned Lisa accomplished that on her own. Her struggles with patience when viewers expressed outrage, I kept it zipped about that because as Tanya stated earlier on "that's just Lisa" and from my point of view she was working on a lot while watching couples struggle with 1 child. So Yes, my initial comment about disregarding a house rule may shock or bother you but I stand by it. It was day 1 though. I didn't jump on her for lightly wacking Cameo on the head with a magazine while trying to put the twins to bed. If that's the worse thing a parent does she's doing okay.

I’m so excited to see this new series uploaded! 😍 Tanya’s gonna have her hands full this week with these families for sure! It’s great that mom Lisa brought her 7 year old son Cairo along with the twins because I have a feeling he’s going to gain a ton from this experience as well, and she’s going to learn from Dr Tanya how to properly discipline her kids and I would bet money that within the next two episodes the twins are going to be in big boy beds and out of those cribs. Max is absolutely in full control because both parents don’t want to be firm and say no to him, he’s being suppressed to infant-like behavior because of it and I’m anxious to see what plan of action Tanya has for them to begin to remedy Max’s behavioral issues that stem from mostly anxiety and his parents always being right there to clean his hands and cater to his every little demand. Now with Alyssa I was honestly disappointed but not surprised that mom came into the room right as dad had her pretty calm and she pushed him out and in the end took Alyssa to their bed. I feel bad for Giles but at the same time he also needs to let his voice be heard and stand up for himself as well, it’s interesting that she wants another baby but yet she still treats Alyssa like a tiny baby that cannot cope. I’m just overall excited for this new series and am really looking forward to the upcoming episodes being released each week! 🥰

There is so much info out there, so many resources to help with successful parenting. This is the easy part! Wait until these kids are teens! There are so many great parenting books, classes, relatives, pediatricians. We teachers have to deal with these behavioral messes when they start school and can’t control their behaviors. Then their parents flip out at us when we discipline them! Common sense! My two kids were a joy to raise. I loved being a mom. I had so much fun with them being firm yet loving. For some reason many modern parents seem to have a problem with their children crying and will give them anything to stop the tears. This term "easy life" we don't use in Canada but I get it. I preferred ensuring my children were well behaved and doing as they were told and had a clear understanding of expectations. That makes an easy life.

41:03 hes retching because of that fake crying pushing air in his stomach. NOT SICK. Whipe it, say " now, that was silly", keep your cool, and say "keep on with your dinner"

I want to know why the mom of the little girl interrupted when the dad was successfully putting her to sleep. She was calming down and she was fine and then the mom interrupted and the kid went crazy.

The Dr. is far kinder then I would be to the parents. They created these kids behavior. The parents will never learn. The parents are weak. Not in my generation. My kids or grandkids never acted like this. Believe me.

Interesting that so many of the moms on this show are way over weight and their partners are slender.

How about addressing the fact that these kids are in a totally new environment with new toys, new space to sleep and a bunch of other people? That would throw anyone off.

They were having the same huge problems at home, so that’s not the issue. These are not the children’s problems, they are the parents’ problems. When Tanya changes the parents’ behaviors, the problems improve. They had to learn to get tough, say no, and stop letting their kids run the show. It’s called parenting!

Why is the black family without a father?

Who knows why, he probably left them bc he didn’t want to be bothered with raising kids, as so many men do, but there have been lots of single mothers on this show. What’s your point? There are all different kinds of families! I raised my kids as a single mom, their dad lived 1,000 mi away, and my grown kids turned out great! Single moms can make great parents, just as married couples can make terrible parents.
