Love the set up. What do you guys used to insulate the metal around the back windows? It looks dark grey or black. I hate touching those bits with bare skin when it’s cold. Do you recommend whatever it is you have used? Do you have some tips? Thanks a bunch!

Guys i love the setup. Im thinking of putting a similar troopy together for work and travel back in aus. Id be interested to hear what model troopy (year & engine) you guys are running and if you have any tweaks you'd make to the interior layout as yet. I'd also be keen to hear where you plan on travelling next - would you take it to Europe / the US as a right hand drive ? Many thanks, James

Hey thanks, sorry for the delayed response. Ours is a 2006 HDJ78R which has the 1HDFTE - pretty hard to come by these days. We're still really happy with our internal design and can't really think of anything we would change. We did an extensive amount of design and testing before we left as didn't want to be retrofitting on the road. We recently had Mark's brother join us here to travel around Bali and slept in the bottom section for nearly 3 weeks which shows the versatility. Next on the route is Malaysia, then Thailand etc all the way up and over to the UK which we plan to reach the end of 2019. (If you check our website there's a map showing a rough route). Cheers :)

Hi, nice setup. It looks like you have to assert a lil of force to pull down the roof top. I was wondering if the lady can pull it down?
@TheWayOverland
@TheWayOverland 6 жыл бұрын
+La Sol thanks! I (Jolie) can pull it down, which I count it as my workout for the day as I need to use all of my strength haha. We had the gas struts readjusted to compensate for the extra weight on the roof with the surfboards etc.

Hi Guys. Only watched a handful of your videos and impressed. You might have done this before but I will ask again. Who did the troopy conversion for you? In particular the cabinets/kitchen and alucab. The roof rack on top of the alucab, what is it? thanks heaps
@TheWayOverland
@TheWayOverland 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Shaun. Quick pitch in Perth did the roof conversion, this was back in 16' when they were the Alucab rep, not sure if they're still doing them. We designed and built the cabinetry and the roof rack is a Pioneer Platform.

As a Troopy camper owner myself, I am always interested in other set-ups and seeing where people decide is the best place for them to go. For example, a simple thing like your Max Traxs on your rear door tyre has me curious about how you have secured them, straps I imagine. But then how do you feel about shopping and leaving them attached? Or do you place everything inside while you're away from the vehicle? I'm guessing it's a judgement call between convenience and security, as are most things when camping.
@TheWayOverland
@TheWayOverland 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Bill Blinky, The maxtrax were actually one which we pondered between putting them off the side of the roof rack (like the shovel), on the roof or on the tyre where it is. We went with the tyre for convenience and so if we used them in mud we wouldn't have it falling all over the car. Maxtrax make the holder they're on which is pretty handy and can hold up to 4. We run a heavy duty nylon wrapped cable with a padlock through the maxtrax/wheel to stop wandering hands. We have a similar cable for the solar, roof box and surfboards. Cheers

Wow super quick reply, thanks. Thanks too for the info on the Max Trax. I actually spotted the Max Trax holder on KZbin and pondered one. It appears to reduce rear visibility, which obviously doesn't worry you too much. Maybe we will bump into each other along the way and compare notes.
@TheWayOverland
@TheWayOverland 6 жыл бұрын
Bill Blinky no worries, The vis reduction is pretty minimal. I actually like it as it serves as a visual indicator the wheel carrier is where it should be! Any other questions let us know. Cheers and safe travels.

Loved all your video’s! Watched them all in just 4 days haha! Just a quick question: do you have a toilet in the car? If not, how do you manage while wildcamping? And in the city you use the bathroom in the hotel?
@TheWayOverland
@TheWayOverland 3 жыл бұрын
4 day!!! Wow, thats impressive! No, no toilet. We don't usually stay in hotels, preferring to try and camp in parking areas of hostels where we use their facilities for a small fee. When wild camping, well, it's wild. 😂

Lots of weight, I've been camping in my 1995 75 series for almost 20 years, I carry much less than I ever did before. Pre V8 troopys are terrible for overtaking already even without weight.
@TheWayOverland
@TheWayOverland 5 жыл бұрын
We're glad you've found a solution after 20 years. Thankfully for us we have a bit more power than the old HZ and can comfortably overtake a road train uphill with this weight. We can also confidently say that having the power or ability to overtake the VDs provide is pointless in Asia where the average speed limit is around 40kms/ph. They also attract issues with poor fuel quality, something which is widespread in these countries. Given we don't go home after a short stint away or have access to the facilities available in Aus carrying more supplies is a conscious decision we made and at the end of the day, what's the rush!?
