Inside the WORLD'S LARGEST Community Kitchen (Golden Temple, Amritsar)

In this video of Living the Jo life, we visit Amritsar in the state of Punjab in northern India, which is the center of India’s Sikh community. Amritsar is located only 30 km from the Pakistan border. To enter the famous Golden Temple (also known as the Harimandir Sahib or Darbar Sahib), which is the holiest gurudwara in Sikhism, you need to cover your hair. We first found some scarves for Kylie and Ella and then a turban for Kasper. To get to the Golden Temple, we walked down the Heritage Street and Golden Temple Road, which are busy shopping streets with lots of stores and side streets with markets. When entering the Golden Temple complex, you are greeted with a stunning view of the Golden Temple, which is surrounded by the holy water of the square pool. As part of the complex, you will find the Langar Hall, a community kitchen that feeds over 100,000 people every day. It was so heartwarming to experience the generosity, selflessness, community spirit, unity, and tireless efforts of volunteers helping out preparing and cooking the food, dishing up the food, and washing up all the dishes. It was such an amazing and unforgettable experience to witness first-hand the kindness and compassion of humanity, which embody the Sikh principle of equality. The Golden Temple complex is a site not to be missed, and it should be on every traveler’s bucket list.

Most people miss the significance of Sikh Langar(Sikh community kitchen). It is not that the food is free(which it is), but that people of any religion, race, colour, caste, creed etc are welcome to join, sit together and partake. This is the message of equality of mankind that is central to Sikhism. Note that all people (whether you are a Sikh or non Sikh ) are treated exactly the same in a Gurudwara (Sikh place of worship) anywhere in the world.

Place u have visited it’s actual name is Darbar Sahib not Golden temple.Sikh place of worship is known as Gurudwara.As a Sikh I can understand ur feelings because looks like u have visited Darbar Sahib first time so when u see everyone is treated equally , free food given to all ,selfless service ,shabad kirtan is being sung which u heard in the loudspeakers and the whole environment brings tears in the eyes.these r tears of happiness. Concept of langar is very revolutionary....in olden days upper caste and lower caste don't sit together....guru ji made them sit together at same level... Even all religion people...different caste ..different colour ...rich or poor ...all sat on same floor together Even Kings or beggars sat at same level Emperor Akbar was made to sat on floor ....Many Kings sat on floor like Maharaja Ranjit Singh ... Many Hindu and Jain kings ...Many Prime minister ..President of Uk..India ..Canada .all have sat on same floor ..even British monarch sat on same level to eat food ... This is Guru Blessing ...everyone is equal in god's eyes ...
