I crossed this border 8 times (4x from Pakistan to India, 4x the other way) in the 1990s .... during my student days -4 backpacking overland trips from Czechia to India, 1994,1995,1996,1997 ..... there was no fancy stuff there, just a fence and number of checkpoints on each side. You had to cross on foot. Then it was a tiring walk about 2km in heat to a first village with a bus stop to get local bus to Amritsar:) The amenities were limited to one or two stalls selling cold drinks on each side outside the border zone. Its funny to see the border changed so much and turned into entertainment:):)

Must visit Jallianwala Bagh its only 550m from golden Temple the story behind it . short distance away from the Golden Temple complex is a spacious park, Jallianwalla Bagh, where on April 13, 1919, British colonial government troops fired on a crowd of unarmed Indian protesters, killing 379 of them and wounding many more.
