Some EVs give you an idea of current usage at the charging stations. I suspect in the future a mix of AI and past data will be available to help plan trips based on available chargers. Charger roll-outs need to keep pace with EV purchases.

@EVworldnews2 ай бұрын
We discussed this a few months ago. An EV owner decided to rent a gas car for a trip and the only gas station was closed for the night so he slept at the pump. When he woke up in the morning 2 more cars were doing the same thing. If he had driven his EV he could have charged at a public charging station across the street(open 24 hours) and not had the hassle. This has been an issue for gas cars for years in remote areas.

@@EVworldnews EV's lined up at charging stations for hours is very common. Thinking you can buy gas in the middle of the night in Montana for example is foolish.

Notice they never talk about costs? To give you an idea on why hydrogen trucks will never take off. It costs 5 to 6 times as much for the fuel, 3 times the cost for the truck, more maintenance and higher operating non fuel costs. To go 100,000 miles in a FCEV (hydrogen) semi it will cost over $400,000 in fuel alone. To go the same distance in diesel truck it will cost $66,000. No one is going to pay $344,000 more to fuel their trucks every year. As a bonus to go the same distance in a BEV (electric) semi it will cost $14,000. How many people do you know that are willing to pay the difference of over the cost of a new semi every year in fuel alone to drive a hydrogen truck?

Nikola has hydrogen fueling stations they would sell to be used at Walmart distribution warehouse’s. Doubt stores would have them. Nikola are day cabover trucks that you would see for delivery routes. not really long haul. The zero emissions in cities and on these routes would be a game changer. I believe I heard that Nikola is entering into a large contract with Plug Power this year for a supply of Green Hydrogen. I’m a fan of both these companies. I believe portable hydrogen station are way cheaper to deploy with quicker refueling times compared to Tesla semi truck.

Why not use a large battery in the trailer? That way you could essentially double the semi's range. The other possibility is that you could add motors to the trailer to offset some of the pulling that the tractor component has to do. Maybe the semi cabin could steer the wheels as well. You could potentially daisy chain the trailers and pull even more weight.

Hydrogen is a dead end for road vehicles. It's way too expensive, and there is no path to making it cheaper. EV power, in contrast, is already the cheaper solution. With EV ranges increasing by 13% by year, distance driving, even when towing, is just a matter of time for any practical distance.

Unless there is a massive hydrogen breakthrough I think @krakken is correct. Battery tech seems to be seeing massive tech gains whereas hydrogen is far more expensive(10x) than BEV. It will take a quantum leap for hydrogen to become viable enough to go big.

@@2023gainer Nuclear suffers from high interest rates just like wind and solar do. Nuclear is incredibly expensive to construct and operate compared to LNG, wind and solar. There is hope that fusion reactors or thorium salt reactors may bring down costs. Nuclear also gets a bad rap because of 3 Mile Island but the nuclear industry is very safe. The Navy has been running nuclear power on ships for 70 years.
