Not so peaceful to be on lockdown in China and be refused care for a medical emergency, or refused necessary medicines, or be locked in a burning building to die, is it? That's just from the past 5 years. If you want to go back 70 years you've got to account for the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution. Not exactly peaceful. What scares me about China is not what it has done to other countries, because for most of the last 70 years China has lacked the power to wage wars. Rather, I'm scared by how it treats its own people, whom it already has power over. Doesn't that seem to be a good indicator of how it will treat other nations, once it has sufficient power? I lived in China for over a decade, and I once had great hopes for China. Xi Jinping has made a mockery of those hopes.

The USA is extremely arrogant to export its political ideology to the rest of the world. China, on the other hand, respects all nations. She doesn't care how other nations govern themselves; it's none of China's business. China believes that every country has the right to choose the political system that best suits its national condition and circumstances. China made her choice 75 years ago, but the USA will not respect China's choice. Today, Chinese support for their political governance is far stronger than American (and British) support for theirs. Western surveys confirm this... ➤ 79% of Chinese believe their nation is democratic, while only 57% of Americans and 55% of British do. [Source: Latana’s Democracy Perception Index 2024.] ➤ 85% of Chinese trust their government, while only 40% of Americans and 30% of British do. [Source: Harvard Kennedy School's Ash Center in 2020, “Taking China’s Pulse.”] ➤ 95% of Chinese believe their country is on the right track and moving in the right direction, while only 41% of Americans and 23% of British do. [Source: Ipsos’ What Worries The World survey from November, 2019.] ➤ most Chinese strongly support their political system. [Source: UC San Diego’s China Data Lab since 2019, “WHAT 16 WAVES OF PUBLIC OPINION SURVEYS TELL US ABOUT CHINA AND CHINESE VIEWS.”] A few years ago, Pew Research conducted Chinese surveys to show the level of satisfaction for their government. In 2002, 48% of Chinese were satisfied. In 2005, 72% were satisfied. From 2006 to 2016, the number was consistently over 80% year after year.

People forget that the US defends the world order because it had a mandate to build that world order post WW2. The US was the only industrialized country that hadn't had its manufacturing base bombed to hell, and American goods were essential to rebuilding other nations post-war. The only way to guarantee that those good could reach their destinations was to secure world wide shipping lanes. This required a world wide network of naval bases. And the Americans were also the ones loaning most of the money to help other nations rebuild, so they needed to keep the peace if there was going to be any chance of them getting their money back. Now, there is plenty to criticize here, because clearly the US stood to benefit greatly from this arrangement, but when people say US overseas bases are proof that the Americans are the real war-mongers, that's just historically incorrect. The US tried to stay out of WW2, got dragged into it, and then won it. This gave the US an enormous mandate of support to do what it had to do to guarantee the reconstruction efforts. Criticize the later abuse of that power if you want, but the construction of those bases was welcomed by the nations that prevailed in WW2, including China, and the existence of those bases have also served to guarantee the safety of Chinese shipments during its rise to become the world's manufacturing hub. This is why the Chinese critique of American power always rings hollow. The US ended Japan's invasion of China, and created the conditions that allowed China to grow immensely in wealth and power from the 80's onward. I'm not trying to take credit from the Chinese people and smart leaders like Deng Xiaoping. Just pointing out that the world order that provided the stable economic system for China to piggyback off of was built by the US, and the US overseas bases are part of what makes it work. If it is time for a new world order, so be it, but let's at least be clear about why the old one evolved the way that it did, and lets understand that China benefited enormously from that world order while it suited them.

Factually correct and in need of telling. The US having defeated Germany and Japan directly helped those countries to rebuild to become in the top few global economies, and also become highly trusted and supportive of the post WW2 world order. That's principle by those 3 countries. I'd never trust China. It has a huge chip on its shoulder and is working against the world order. 🙏 I don't want WWIII. I enjoy speaking my mind to share ideas and learn different cultures. I don't care about who is in charge. I know the importance of maintaining a balance among nations. Undeniably, a calm, peaceful and mutual understanding among people of different cultures and nationalities is at the top of our priorities. I know each nation is working really hard to achieve that, so I hope whoever come out to speak on a stage touching on this matter has to be as neutral as possible. Chinese culture for example is very very different from the western culture. Representatives has to be very careful to bring peace to every corner of the world. In the Chinese culture, hierarchical structure is fundamental. To crisscross this structure, we break down any subsequent discussions instantly. Again, we are still an understanding nation. Invasions are never in our blood (I am British National of Chinese origin) but once disrepect is tasted in the atmosphere. People become defensive. I need to point out making the most of business opportunities is in our blood. If this is the case, this is a problem can be resolved easily. 😂 You can easily see this in our festive seasons, art etc

The US Navy's tonnage is almost entirely tied up in its aircraft carriers. The USA has 11 aircraft carriers, each with about 100,000 tons displacement. One carrier is equivalent to a dozen or so destroyers and frigates. America's reliance on aircraft carriers is an Achilles' Heel. China has a very effective A2/AD strategy with its vast rocket force (including hypersonic "carrier killers"), which keeps US carriers at bay. China's PLAN can overwhelm the US Navy with its numerous destroyers, frigates, corvettes, and submarines. That's the advantage of numbers.

Thanks for saying what needs to be said, Melissa. She did a great interview with Joe Rogan a few years ago as well. She's been sounding the alarm for years now, but few in the mainstream news media seem to be listening.

What qualifies Melissa to being an expert on China? She is a Singaporean of Chinese descent. Being of Chinese descent doesn't qualify you as an expert. She conned us into believing she knows what she is talking about. She hasn't even stepped foot into China. Even existing Chinese Singaporeans don't understand China, let alone someone who is hardly in Asia.

@horridohobbies it doesn't matter whether I agreed with her views. My point is that she does not have the necessary credentials to speak about China. Being of Chinese descent doesn't automatically qualify you to do so.
