Good luck! I too joined my first league, I've been basically living at the bowling alley preparing for it.

Just don't establish your average too high . Everybody sandbags .

I’m interested in your experience. I’ve been bowling casually for nearly 20 years. I’ve lived right next to a bowling alley for the last 7. I want to start competing on their league nights but hearing and learning all the bowling terminology and etiquette always makes me feel clueless and I just don’t partake. I can legitimately bowl around 205 on average with house balls. But I have no idea what the next step would be.

Thank you for the tip about treating practice games like league games. I just joined my first league in years and I'm going to try this. Love your content, following!

I joined my high school bowling league. You guys are good at preparing me for the season! They are letting everyone on the team bowl 3 free games a day Monday thru Friday at the local bowling alley Shawnee Lanes. That is up to 15 free games per week! Thanks for sharing your tips for having good technique!

Thanks for watching our videos Ethan, we really hope they are helping you on the lanes! That's awesome that Shawnee Lanes is giving the high school bowlers some free practice games to help them to work on their games!! Thanks again and good luck on the lanes!!!

This is much better than my advise... Remember the thumb goes in the big hole!

Great information . but if you just are developing a hook release and getting a better forward swing would you spend more time with that kinda stuff???

right. but not everyone is just starting a hook release. this video isnt meant for that, its getting all bowlers ready for league season

We have other videos on the channel on hooking a bowling ball. This video is for regulars that are getting ready to get back into league after taking the Summer off.

Should your thumb be in the hole or not to throw a nice hook?

That's two entirely different, valid, styles. It's personal preference. Those that bowl thumb out tend to bowl higher revs and have a lower axis rotation and thumb-in is generally the opposite. It's how you want to bowl it, 2 handers and 2 finger bowling is becoming more and more popular!

After my league ended last season, about March this year, I was a conventional bowler. I changed my whole style. I use 2 finger style with hook now. We all have our own style, but the comment above is correct. My RG is high. Just have to find the right ball for yourself. The ones I originally used before going to this style did not work for me anymore. The ball for the lanes I bowl on that I have found to work best is the Motiv Desert Tank. I have found others like the Purple Pearl by Hammer worked better on high oil lanes, I also use the motiv Top Thrill on a medium light oil lane. Takes time to find the right throw and style ball that works best for yourself.

The afternoon of the day that league starts is not a convenient time to learn that a ball cracked in storage! Go through your bag now even if you don't think that you will visit the lanes prior to the start of the season. While you are doing that, air out your shoes -- your squad mates will thank you :)

best advise. . don't stop bowling during the summer. . bowl during the summer alone or join a summer league. If you never stop, it's that much easier to go from season to season.

They forgot something...refuse the temptation to establish a super high average. Not worth having a high average in this day and age.
