I have experienced this before, however this was on a inflatable kayak, at the end of our kayak ride all of my camp mates realised our arms and legs felt like they were on fire! We tried washing our arms and legs with soap many times but it just wouldn't go. In addition we also couldn't move much as any form of rubbing on the skin be it our own skin or clothing will worsen the burning sensation that is already there even more. later that night I looked at my pants and I saw the same shiny silver particles like the ones we see here in this video and I found out they were fiberglass particles, thankfully for me it wasn't as much as that black shirt in the video. I can only imagine a tiny amount of the pain these people have gone through and even this 'tiny amount' was horrible. The pain was immeasurable. I was lucky that the fibre glass particles got off my skin within 5 days, but gosh imagine how much longer it wouldv'e taken for these people to get these tiny particles off. I was also lucky that I didn't contaminate all of my clothing and fabrics when I returned home.

This wasn't that kind of mattress cover you washed, it was a fire proof cover from what I've looked into and seen. Think my mom has this kind and I searched cleaning mattress cover and immediately seen this question. Can you see a zipper on your mattress? Then do NOT automatically assume that you can remove the cover! Because in many cases, although a mattress cover CAN be removed - you actually SHOULDN’T remove it at all. This is because many mattresses contain fiberglass as part of the fire barrier and removing the cover can release fiberglass particles into the atmosphere - with some people reporting skin and lung irritation as a result. And recommendations to add your own Washable mattress cover asap over the original one. I think people buying online and big box stores don't get the proper guidance on how to care for the mattress and the IMPORTANT WhoWhatWhereWhen&WHY Do's and Dont's

Thoughts to the little soul. But, this causes me to ask: How many mattresses use fiberglass as a fire-retardant? 🤔

From personal experience, you do not have to unzip and remove the cover for fiberglass to be exposed. All it takes is the body's friction pressure against mattres, causing the concealed fiberglass mesh to rip and have fiberglass particles to poke out the mattres.

Don't take the cover off! Plan and simple
@InWinds3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I'm one of the people in the video. It comes through the cover regardless. Manufacturers have told people to remove it for cleaning, it literally has a zipper. Even if it didn't escape the cover, the average person who wants to clean their bedsheets periodically would remove it; and even if you find that it's a dumb move, that "dumb" move shouldn't have given me lifelong health issues.

This is nuts! A mattress cover with a zipper is obviously meant to be taken off and washed. Putting a zipper on it is with a tiny tag that says not to remove is just fraudulent. That poor baby!

In the military, a soldier put fiberglass shavings in his rivals mattress. It cuts, itches and burns the skin all right. And you can not get it out of your rugs, clothing, ect.
@BisexualBeauty3 жыл бұрын
Google says to Remove fiberglass from clothing by brushing the dry garment, machine washing using soap on a warm temperature setting and machine drying. The process sometimes requires the clothing to go through the wash cycle multiple times to eliminate all the fibers.

my mom buys mattress from a store that has 0 fiber glass on the mattress and on top of that she buys those protective covers with a zipper to put on the base and top mattress that prevents dust mites, bed bugs and leakage. It’s a waste of money but certainly very good and safe. Also, I’ve had my Mattress for 8 years now and I’ve slept comfortably and not once had any problems. I recently got a new one for my parents because they had there’s for over 10 years so it needed a replacement but we bought near our store where it was safely examined and checked

I never buy cheap mattress especially on line. Learned my lesson many years ago. I don’t mind spending on mattress that last and has good warranty, customer service and a brick and mortar store. $150 for a twin cardboard no way!

I can attest to this because it happened to My Daughter. She took off the thing to wash it and there was fiberglass EVERY WHERE. We had to throw out hundreds of dollars worth of clothes, sheets, pillow cases and bed clothing. It's a horrible mess and IT DOESN'T COME OUT. TRUST ME ON THAT ONE!!!
