I saw the movie "Bad Boys" with Sean Penn and Esai Morales when I was 13, and Clancy absolutely terrified me! Penn and Morales played badasses very well, but Clancy played the most insane, unstoppable beast you'd never want to meet. I gained a lot of respect for all 3. Great movie.

I think it's funny how Clancy Brown struggled to "get into character" for his role as Captain Byron Hadley. That often happens when the character is 180 degrees opposite from the actor playing him. Martin Kove had a similar experience auditioning for John Kreese in The Karate Kid. It can take a lot of practice for a fairly "normal, humane, person" to immerse themselves in the role of a cold, ruthless, demented individual. Both Byron Hadley and John Kreese are legendary movie villains.

The first movie I remember seeing Clancy in was " Bad Boys" with Sean Penn and Esai Morales about an under 18 bunch of fools in a juvenile jail type facility. He definitely does some of his best work in the role of a bad guy. As a fellow American with some Irish blood in my veins, I raise my glass to ya, Clancy. I think Clancy's Luthor was better than Michael's, not that it was Michael's acting or his fault, his Luthor just a poorly written version of Luthor compared to Clancy's in Superman The Animated series, Justice League/Justice League Unlimited.

​@@ValiantWrestlingyea I gotta agree with ya on this one....I don't blame Michael either....but Clancys Luthor was just written, which idk if an actor would call being an animated character an advantage or disadvantage (guess it depends....I suppose method actors like heath ledger was in Dark Knight and how you actually could see him as the Joker but I bet he'd have a harder time finding his voice for joker because he was just living the role ya know....) The problem i find with The DCEU i would compare as similar to when a video game or comic has a really kickass storyline that i can only imagine would be kick ass as a live action film....but rather they totally ignore the awesome lore or arc in the game (or comic) that the film or show borrows the title and characters then rather than just use the awesome source material available to them in MOST cases and instead they take FULL liberties with the license....in some cases it's almost as if the writers and directors let's just use the disasterous films that they called Suicide Squad while i can give them credit for casting which they hàve the always done pretty decent at (ignoring the fuckin drunken decision to pick Zuckerberg as Lex for some reason that I'll never understand and you can't make me lmao) it's as if the writers and directors had no fuckin clue that ALL THEY HAD TO DO (in my opinion anyway) to make a Squad movie ppl would love based on the killer story alone is check out the Suicide Squad animated movie "Assault on Arkham" to me , it still ranks as not only one the best dc animated films but just one of the best films in the DC film universe as a whole..... sorry so long winded....I def can't recommend Assault on Arkham any higher to a fan or someone who's just curious how they could've done the Squad movie right from the beginning....check it out if ya haven't

Wow to see Brown with so much silver. I remember see his awesome performance as Krueger in Highlander. Tall menacing and evil. I bet his part in Shawshank was idealised as him and only him. You know the producers already gave him the part, because of his performance in Highlander. They already seen him play mean and evil as an immortal, so playing a harass C.O. would be no problem.

I finished my Air Force career at the 200th RED HORSE Squadron, in Mansfield. We drilled pretty much across the street from Shawshank. That's what we call it here. I mean, it's still officially the Ohio State Reformatory, but everybody in Mansfield, and pretty much all of Ohio calls it Shawshank.

He's just amazing. When I was in college they played Shawshank a lot on the school's movie channel in my dorm. His performance blew my mind when I was 18. EVERY TIME I was surprised I started saying, "What the Christ is this happy horseshit???" And I would call my friends "fat barrel of monkey spunk" LOL. Clancy totally made that movie what it is. He's the only thing making it feel dark/realistic except for Bogs (which isn't a big role). Without Hadley and Bogs it would be a silly feel-good prison movie. I mean, it's already a feel-good prison movie, but without Hadley it would be silly. Hadley is such a scary guy but he's also saying hilarious stuff. And what would the world be like without Mr. Krabs? This man is a treasure! When I hear a Queen song I think of Clancy and I want to turn it up and go cut somebody's head off.

Clancy Brown in "Highlander" as Kurgan is Oscar worthy as far as I'm concerned. I can't imagine anyone else being able to bring that much unbridled malevolent insanity to that character. And he looks like he is at least 7 ft tall. What a maniac he was in that part. I've seen that movie many many times and without Brown's Kurgan it would not have been a good movie. Arnold as Kurgan? That is laughable.

Here's a fun fact. 4 hours before the wrecking ball started to swing they decided to use the old Ohio State Reformatory as the prison in Shawshank Redemption. And now because of that movie that old prison is now a museum and a national landmark.

HOLY SHIT I was born in the town that the movie was shot in! Mansfield Ohio! (It's a shit place trust me, the prison is still up and running and you can pay for a tour. They have entire sections dedicated to the movie and if you're into spirits it's really spooky and had incredible history!) Clansy brown is hands down my favorite actor, I grew up with him as Mr Krabs and I ADORED him as Hank in Detroit become human and I'm tickled pink to think that he was in my hometown

Like any great character actor, he blends into roles so well that you might not realize that it's him. To me, his roles in the 2 Coen Bros' movies Buster Scruggs and Hail Caesar were little comic gems. And although a lot of people didn't like Cowboys & Aliens, I thought the cast (including Clancy as the preacher) was great and gave solid performances all around (despite the ridiculous script).
