I love SG. But as much as it pains me to say this, if JJ and his bad re-boot company get his grubby hands on SG. You are not having me watching it. He and his company, and basically anyone recommened by him, has messed up so many things, I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot barge pole. I was a Trek fan, but ST died for me after Enterprise, thanks to him and others. Sadly that is my biggest fear for SG.

@@bernicerichter8944 they dont have to reboot , just write actually likeable characters. its just compare daniel jackson with Rush - its like having daniel replaced with his mirror-universe- counterpart. it was soooo frustrating. he was just thirty for knowledge - at all costs. no humbleness, no weighing of knowledge and wisdom at all. terrible. anyway there wasnt even ONE character in sg:u to actually identify with. the backstory was so potent yet. asking if the universe may have been CCC (conformal cyclic cosmology) with the option to send/let linger a message to the new universes cycle was really COOL to begin with. its even a relatively new theory in physics - and lanteans exploring the mystery if maybe their kin left a backround message for them to re-emerge in the new iteration - wow - so much potential - wasted on a teenage dirtbag show ^^

Speaking of that... I wasn't really into Stargate as a kid, so I don't know how SG 1 was received by fans of the movie. Were there people upset about Kurt Russell's character being played by a guy who didn't look like him, and doesn't act like him? All I know is that I was more familiar with the show than the movie as a kid... I didn't even know there was a movie that predated the show. So when I finally watched the movie it took a minute for me to realize it was even the same character. Obviously, as you can tell from the previous comment, I was a Trekkie when SG1 was on. I still watched it occasionally, but I watched TNG and TOS reruns, more.

I liked the Expanse but was pretty irritated they basically went no where with the 2 aliens civilizations. They explored basically none of it an then the show ended. They explored virtually nothing about the 3600 new solar systems they had access to. Its like they made a cool universe that could have went all over the place an been awesome an instead they remained in earths solar system and its squabbles. Was a pretty huge letdown but it probably followed the books. Either way it was a massive failure to capitalize on what was a cool universe storyline to explore.

@@shanepotter4635 The books explore those planets (and alien remnants), but also the reasons why it's not as simple as you think :) But even out-of-universe (of a pretty hard sci-fi, mind), it's not like the books so far were just a pilot for a new series that's completely different. It's still fundamentally about humans and how their societies work and develop. There's no reason why that would change just because a thousand new worlds are within reach now - heck, that makes everything even crazier. Even before the show ended, they dipped their toes in the massive impact all of this had on people, and the books continue that even further.

Star gate is an epic sci-fi saga I grew up on it own all the series sg1 atlantis universe plus movies. I do not trust the studios the writers ect so I've faith in what they hope to offer after destroying so many of my other franchise.

What do I think? I think the subscription market is over saturated and many folks are drowning. It seems like every month another subscription service requiring another $10-$15/month arrives on the scene. I have been a SG fan since it's inception. But I have no interest in paying for MGM+ even if it means passing on a SG reboot.

Amazon should use Brad Wright as a consultant with the Expanse creator team, so that Stargate feels right! Regarding 5M vs 10M per episode, I think 5M is fine as they could do low effects episodes and high effects episodes to balance it all out, if faced with a lower than expected budget. It is ironic when movies like Amazon's (Chris Pratt) Tomorrow War get 200M for its budget, when an excellent IP like Stargate gets a smaller budget in a series, which has huge franchise and marketing potential (as the 3rd most popular sci fi (with 3 series) IP next to Star Wars and Star Trek). Amazon's Rings of Power is estimated at $89M per episode and $715M for the 8 episodes and got mixed reviews.

I have been a huge SG fan since season one of SG1. The SG movie was the first DVD I ever owned and I happily display my SG1 box set on my nerd wall. With that said, I think they need to stop trying to reboot shows and bring some more great boots to the little screens. I think books like Expeditionary Force would be great for a TV series. Maybe something way different and bring some alt history to TV like Stigers Tigers or The Destroyer men. New is better and this constant rebranding, rebooting has yo stop.

I, for one, fervently hope that they DON'T make any new Stargate... it's quite literally the Last Man Standing when it comes to classic sci-fi shows we all know and love. I do NOT want to see it get the same treatment that Star Trek and Star Wars got - and let's not kid ourselves here, that is _EXACTLY_ what will happen if any new Stargate movie or series is made in this current creative/political climate. We've already seen the direction amazon wants to take the franchise in with the abysmal Catherine. And that was made several years ago - things have only gotten _worse_ and _more insane_ since then. I love Stargate, its my favorite sci-fi show of all time... Please God in Heaven let me never have to witness a Stargate: Gates of Power! Even if Brad Wright was to be involved, I have no confidence in a new Stargate series - he was involved in Universe, and I haven't forgotten that. I think, _best case scenario_ with a new Stargate show, even if it avoids the JJ Abrams/Alex Kurtzman touch of death, you'll end up with a grim-dark, gritty version of Stargate that's trying to be The Expanse, with a cast chosen to "reflect the modern society" rather than for talent, with a huge helping of _The Message_ shoe-horned in at every opportunity, with seasons that are only 8 - 10 episodes long and that will inevitably be canceled after only a few seasons and will leave the plot unresolved. The _spirit_ of the show will not be present; "creatives" today simply are not capable of making a light-hearted, positive and optimistic family-friendly story filled with adventure and likeable, relatable characters who are _actually_ good guys who do the right thing, like the heroes we had when we were young. They will do to Stargate what they did to Star Trek in Discovery. Everyone will be dark and tormented, the characters will hate each other, 95% of the general population will be gay, the men will be stupid, crooked, and weak, the strong female lead will be perfect and the best at all times, racism will be a ubiquitous problem, and the enemy will seem more sympathetic than our "heroes." The writers will use the series as therapy to work out their own neuroses or to showcase their own weird fetishes in very obvious self-inserts, the pre-existing canon will be utterly ignored, and the fans will be accused of every kind of ism and phobia for not liking it. We've seen it over and over and over again, and there is literally no reason to think this time will be any different. If Bad Reboot/Secret Handout gets ahold of it, the characters will also speak like 1990s teenaged Valley Girls on an episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and be completely and absurdly wrong about even the most basic, first grade level science while being totally absorbed in their own narcissism and having the emotional stability of the average toddler, played by actors openly dripping with contempt for the show itself and its entire fan base. No, thank you, I don't think I want any nu-Stargate. Please just leave it alone.

I'm a bit worried. So many series have been completely ruined, universes destroyed, and hopes lost. I don't know if I want to see Stargate coming back in this time period. You know, Stargate was able to balance being nerdy, funny, and serious at the same time. We saw that in Indiana Jones, we saw that in Star Trek, but these days everything has to be dark and in conspiracy. I don't like it. And Amazon? After ruining LOTR, I'm not really sure what's going down next.

Stargate is very near to my heart. I have watched it at least a dozen times from start to finish. Working from home it was always on my computer split screen with my work. I hope whatever they do, they don't stray too much from the way it was before. My idea would be really simple to pass it off to a new cast. Have the old cast go back in time and mess things up. Then the new crew takes over. Nice and simple. Gives the fans a quick smile with the past team and a pass off to the new. You can have the old crew make some guest appearances or even have them work at Stargate command. Hopefully the new show includes the Furlings.

Here's the problem. The Gate fans that matter, are fans via the Wright-Universe. While we love the movie because it's recognized as the beginning of the universe we care about. We want THAT iteration, not something that's not related or loosely related. We want those stories wrapped up. Not starting out of the mud retreading and rebooting the stuff we love ala Star Trek Discovery.

Hmmmm . The Expanse writers want to " Buy In " . I approve . And also , if "Ronon Dex " wont return , I think " Amos Burton " would be an EXCELLENT replacement . Very Much an equivalent character .

To give my input. Yes I would trust the Expanse guys, they made a very good series. Should it be a movie first? If its my by Jar Jar misa don't trust him, misa know they will run with his vision in the series. As far as where to set it, reboot is a no go, it's best to figure something out set in the future, maybe not too far into the future to allow cameos from the now older original cast, although maybe a century into the future is best, trying to tap into a new galaxy like Atlantis.

I hope they stick to the old formula, 2 parter (“movie”) first then series. I can get on board with a Wright-Less SG if they honor his work and try and emulate it, at least eventually. I’m terrified that SG will fall prey to the current trends. But I do hope they end up having the people who created almost endless hours of SG come back.

Really since Amazon purchased MGM, basically Amazon Prime should consume MGM up and get rid of MGM+, really nobody I know subscribes to MGM+, But most people I know have Amazon Prime. Why drastically limit the size of audience?

I love Stargate, and it’s spin offs. I’m watching it atm after not seeing it for a few years.. it holds up so well. I can’t see them making anything that could recreate the magic they had. I’m also not sure what story direction they’d take.

Hope its true. Loved SGU. As to direction, - I love canon, but I do think that its hard to expand Universe from the point it is right now, especially considering how much time passed inside the Universe if writers decide to start from the moment everything ended. Hard task. Maybe,the best thing they can do is to revisit some parts of the story, till the time Atlantis was discovered and make Orion the main threat again, but different Orion, more powerful? Hard to tell. If SG will return - I would love to see what writers can do, no matter if its good or bad.
