Tape or paper on the nut to wedge it into the wrench is the way it’s done.

I can't say anything, but I know somewhere down the line I'm kin to this fellow. Just remember "Never Give Up." I have never watched a more entertaining video. Excellent, FR

Thanks for the video. I didn’t have any CA glue on hand so I set my nut inside the 7/16” wrench and placed a tongue suppressor underneath it and slid both under together. The nut stayed in the wrench and went right on.

I just installed mine to a plug in older dewalt dw321. I used the original dewalt screw to secure the collins foot and didn’t need to use the supplied screw/nut combo. I’m sure all saws are different.

This was a pretty funny video lol. I’ve been considering getting a Collins coping foot for my dewalt jigsaw but I think I’d rather get a second jigsaw than swap between the two of these bases.

OMG I almost died laughing watching you with the wrench and nut, especially when you had it on the closed end. I kept shouting USE A PIECE OF TAPE.

When I did mine I left the lever that comes with that jigsaw to use as the nut and I recommend that people do what you did and completely replace it because that lever just gets in the way

You can attach a neodymium magnet to the hand end of the wrench. The wrench won’t saturate the magnetic field so the nut will stick. Same with screwdriver to remove. You don’t need to fuss with magnetizing.

Hi - I enjoy your videos and wish I had half your woodworking skill 😂. I had questions about using a jigsaw for coping inside corners for baseboards. I thought about using a jigsaw with the Collins foot and I would most likely want to cope from underneath the baseboard. So - can you really cope from underneath the piece if the jigsaw is not the barrel grip style? I'm worried about the position of the trigger. Also, my baseboards are stained and I don't want chipping if the stained part (front) so, coping from underneath the baseboard, would I be using an up cut blade? Thanks, Matt

Great video. I was laughing my head off the whole time. Because...... I did the exact same things when I installed mine. Fingers, box wrench got it on then had to take it off. needle nose pliers and lastly masking tape. Thanks for the entertainment.

Wow; that's complicated! It's WAY easier on some other saws: I've installed it on 2 Bosch jigsaws (1591, 12v), and the newest Milwaukee barrel grip. None of them have a loose nut to worry about. good ol' dewalt..... ;P
@whitevanman87034 жыл бұрын
Neither does my Makita corded, as far as I know the only jigsaw which has a loose nut is the DeWalt.

Can you not get a longer version of the factory T25 hex bolt that came with the original flat shoe and just thread through the coping foot into the original hole?

Lol when I watched you fumbling with the wrench I thought to myself how about ca glue and activator( same stuff you used ). Btw might want to tell people to remove batt before install. Not everyone is as competent as you.🍻

Probably a comment that is beneath everyone watching this video, but putting a small strip of tape like duct tape on the wrench will work. Stick the sticky side to the wrench, the other side will hold nut snug

Have you tried the festool blades that have the little teeth on the back edge of them? Looks to be a good idea for tight turns with a jigsaw.
@InsiderCarpentry4 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried that particular blade.
@nycboxing83593 жыл бұрын
I read instructions and it recommends needle nose pliers to hold the nut. No need for glue, tape, blade etc. Seen couple of different installs and what nobody mentions is that the shim should be pushed forward towards the blade to the end of the elongated mounting slot. The actual coping will rest on the rear mounting slot. At least that has been my experience with the Dewalt DCS 335

Is it better to use a jigsaw blade with more teeth or less teeth for coping? Would more teeth be better for a smoother finish cut?
@InsiderCarpentry4 жыл бұрын
The recommended blade is the bosch T244D I find it works best.

I just grabbed the nut with a pair of needle nose...after i cussed a few times trying to position it with a screwdriver. Still only took a few minutes. Hasn't come off after quite a bit of use.

Spencer, random questions, what became of your Cope Master machine? Why did you go with the barrel grip jig saw?
@InsiderCarpentry4 жыл бұрын
I still have it but haven’t really needed to get it out for a long time because I’ve been doing so much flat base. And for small houses I can do it with a coping foot just as fast as it takes me to drag the machine out. I only get the cooemaster out for bit jobs with more intricate profiles.

1 second ago Do you know how to turn off the LED lights? When using the Collins coping foot, the saw is upside down and the lights are blinding. This makes it very difficult to see the profile being coped.
