yes he was 100% Right , Sting didn't respect the script and build-up that was prepared for him for his match with Hogan. They made him look strong for about 14 months. When the match came, he wasn't physically or mentally ready, and Sting admitted that he was using drugs at that time, which is forbidden. Sting wasn't a professional at that time, unfortunately. That's why Hogan handled the situation differently. Although Hogan could have decided who won and who lost, and he could have beaten Sting, he still didn't beat Sting. Bruce Prichard once commented and said that if Sting had done the same thing in WWE, Vince McMahon would have made Sting lose. So be fair and don't be biased towards Sting. and .people need to understand kid that Grabbing the Tights During a pinfall attempt is illegal . you can see Hollywood Hulk Hogan Grabbing Sting's tights .Which means that Hulk Hogan did Not Win clean after all . even when Nick patrick botch the Fast 3 count finish . which means that Hogan wants to make sure that Sting DOES Not lose clean. There is no other explanation for this. Hulk Hogan is truly a professional. But the likes of Dave Meltzer and some of the اhogan hatres will Never Understand the ART of Wrestling . Hogan did it again in their Rematch on Nitro and when the replay was played on Thunder you can hear Bobby "The Brain" Heenan say ( Hogan Grabbing the Tights .) And by the way. Bret Hart in a new interview, mentioned that he confronted Nick Patrick after the Hogan/sting match and said to him, ““Aren’t you supposed to Do a Fast count ?” and Nick Patrick replied, “Yes, but I forgot to do A fast count ” This is evidence of Hogan's innocence and that the real liars here are Hogan's haters

Eric Bischoff and Vince Russo both ruined WCW...WCW was once a powerful (overly competitive) wrestling company...Ted put the wrong people in charge.. Bischoff knew absolutely nothing about the wrestling business... ridiculous storylines/creative and giving the ok to ending the streak ultimately ended WCW....He had the talent but had absolutely no idea what to do with it... When WCW ended so did competitive wrestling... And the whole 83 weeks really doesn't matter...The star power made me want to change the channel but after a while it got old... Yes Hogan did save professional wrestling (more than once)... with help... but his "creative control"... and bad desicion making also played a huge part in the downfall of WCW... but at the end of the day it was Eric Bischoff who was in charge...

@@PerkAngle123 They didn't need Hogan by that point. Once people start watching, they'll like whoever the storyline TELLS them to like. Look at Goldberg! They took a nobody and within a few weeks, HE was the one people were coming to see. And all they had to do was give him good billing, a good entrance, and book him to always win. Hogan never got big in the first place based on talent. He got big because he was always booked to win It's like music aimed at kids. The record companies TELL the kids who to like. There are some limitations. Sometimes the kids don't buy it. Sometimes they like someone you didn't expect. But if that happens, you just put your money into the guy they DO like. Bischoff keeps defending Hulk at every turn. Granted, Sting was clearly having personal issues. But given how important this storyline was, shouldn't Bischoff have been the one to make sure Sting remained focused? That was his job as head of WCW at that point. Hogan's "doubt" was another excuse for him not losing cleanly. And if no one is communicating, that is also on Bischoff to facilitate a smoothly running ship.

The "convoluted" finish is meant to protect and keep the losing wrestler still looking strong moving forward. I'll give you a few examples, Goldberg streak being broken required that he's been tazed and jumped by nWo before taking Nash finish for the 1-2-3- smh, 03-07 HHH was GOATED coming up wit ref bumps and foreign objects before putting someone over, Reigns was becoming that guy the last being champ. Conrad Thompson did. He asked all those questions you posed. It didn't really go over well. Bischoff just dug in his heels. He has a strong personality that's tough to break down. The only way to make him vulnerable is to make him comfortable. That's how he eventually conceded that the decision was all up to Hulk Hogan, after decades of downplaying the role his creative control clause played in the outcome. Bischoff will never allow himself to be put in a situation where he's forced to be held to account.

They should have done everything in their power to make sure that match went off without a hitch with a clean finish. Sting should have looked as dominant as he did when he won his first world title from Flair at The Great American Bash 1990. Sting should have imposed his will on Hollywood Hogan at Starrcade with Hogan not knowing what to do to keep Sting down. Towards the end of the match, Sting takes out the big guns of the NWO and then forces Hollywood to submit. Earlier in the year, Luger had a much better clean win against Hogan on Nitro than the clusterf**k Sting had at Starrcade. Luger took out Hall, Nash, and other members of the NWO before submitting Hogan. They could have done something similar with Sting. Afterwards, they could have given world champion Sting a little bit of time off from wrestling in the ring in order to get clean in time for Superbrawl. He'd still make appearances on Nitro to give the NWO nightmares but wouldn't wrestle until Superbrawl.

I think the nWo story and the crow Sting story are the same story. The nWo probably wouldn't have worked as well as it did if it weren't for crow Sting. The crowd was chanting "we want Sting" every Monday night while the nWo was taking over. I imagine WWE having the rights to nWo, but not the rights to the Sting character is the reason Sting doesn't get the same amount of recognition for WCW's early success as the nWo gets.

when i was a kid, there was a year where school ended and everyone went on summer break as usual. i wasn't into wrestling at the time, and my close friends who i kept in contact with over the summer didn't either. when school started again, every boy in the school was wearing a NWO shirt and i had no idea what it was all about. got into wrestling shortly after and the next 5 years of WCW vs WWF was the most interesting 5 years of TV of all time.

If you're the person in charge you don't go making contracts that let the other person say no, they don't have to do the job that you've given them. This just goes to show how far people like Eric were willing to go in putting the needs of other wrestlers below the desire to make as much money with Hogan as possible.

Given that this match was the match of all matches, regardless of how many hands were in the pot you would expect communication to be front and center for this. I mean the entire WCW vs NWO was tied to this one match. EB mentioned that he knew Hulk somewhat well at this time. My question would be was that the only one he was keeping up with? Regardless of what the “personal issues”were with Steve/Sting, it couldn't have been something that just popped up over a few days. Maybe EB should’ve paid a little more attention to the other stars on his roster. Even if Steve wasn’t scheduled to make an appearance for several shows at a time. Seems like if he would’ve done that then the problem about what we are going to do could've been dealt with a lot sooner than it was. Just kind of funny to hear EB say even if Sting would’ve gone over clean, even with his issues the story still would’ve worked. Sounds to me it's just Hogan being Hogan and a leader of a company not knowing how to lead

They created Crow Sting, and he essentially had superpowers within kayfabe. He was constantly taking out the entire NWO by himself. It was a plain and simple revenge story, but Hogan - EVEN AS A HEEL, needed to get the "real" win. He didn't even tap out for the loss. He wanted it to always be in people's heads that Hart could have called a submission that hadn't happened. If you want to keep the belt on Hogan, have another run-in like they dide every week anyways. I think the belt should spend most of its time on a heel anyways. But the Crow gimmick has to end with Sting beating Hogan clean. And it should have been an easy win, based on the storyline to that point. Ideally, they should have had the whole NWO attack Sting with baseball bats earlier in the night. In the movie they were ripping off, the hero is already dead and can regenerate. And that's pretty close to how they were portrayiong Crow Sting.

Hogan wanted to be the third guy because of the potentially huge payday. Remember, his contract paid him guaranteed money plus a percentage on PPV's he appeared on that performed better than the WCW average at the time. He knew that Bash at The Beach was going to be one of the best-selling PPV's WCW ever had up to that point, so as Nash once said "Hogan wasn't going to let that money train leave the station without him on it."

Steve Borden was massively depressed on the day of Starcade 97 and as a result, his character does nothing in the match, outside of a couple dropkicks and a turnbuckle splash. Eric still struggles mightily to tell what ought to be a pretty simple story. After 25 years, you'd think he'd be able to come up with at least a narrative, inaccurate as it may be, that he can stick to. I get that the story is a sensitive one, but Eric struggling to tell it to this day suggests to me it'd damage his own credibility, as well as put Hogan under, if he told it more honestly and openly. Constantly invoking Sting's personal troubles is blame-shifting. Unless Sting showed up intoxicated or something, there's no reason not to put him over. None. If you watch the match, it was awful, but there's nothing to suggest Sting couldn't do the bare minimum necessary to get to the finish. This wasn't a Jeff Hardy situation. There's nothing Eric could say that could make me see things from Hogan's viewpoint. A true professional understands that when something needs to happen, IT HAS TO HAPPEN. The only rational (not the same as reasonable) reason for not putting Sting over is because Hogan flat-out didn't want to for personal reasons. I get that he had creative control, but then Bischoff should've never spent so much time downplaying the role that it played in the outcome. The fact that for years, bringing up creative control in his presence was so triggering tells me Bischoff had something to hide. When you get to the finish line, you make it happen. As for communications problems, anyone who's been around the block a few times knows that communications problems don't emerge in a vacuum. They happen because of the culture of the company. To have a communications breakdown at literally the most critical point in the company's history isn't just inexcusable, it's systemic. Bischoff struggling to be straightforward even when all of this is now public knowledge shows me it's all a bunch of BS. If you want to deceive people, you make the story as complicated as possible. If you want to tell the truth, you make the story as simple as possible, even if it might be complicated in reality.

If Sting was in such bad shape he couldn’t work, how did he work against Hogan the very next night? And at Superbrawl? Both in matches that did a much better job of making Sting look strong… but unfortunately it was too late. Supposedly you had all these doubts whether Sting could consistently work main events, yet all you did was constantly book him in main events. Sting really has no excuse for not kicking out, though. Fast count or not, if you take a guy’s finish and just lay there, it looks like you got beat.

Hogan should have lost clean. The NWO arc, as it stood, was getting stale. Sting should have won the title followed by the NWO imploding and turning on each other. Afterwards you have Sting vacate the title setting him up to be the Undertaker equivalent where he doesn't need the title but breaks heads when he needs to. Probably being the boogeyman that finishes off some of the remaining NWO. You set up a tournament for the vacant title where you probably have Goldberg come out as the new champion where he goes on a half year run run of destruction. Here is where you have Hart reform the NWO as the Pink and Black addition to take the belt from Goldberg, injuring him to take him out for the remaining year, setting you up for a Hart heel faction run into the 2000s. This is a chance to break up the Nitro and Thunder shows into two different teams similar to what WWE was about to do. You can have the NWO wars on Thunder with Hard and a Nash led babyface Wolfpack going on while WCW remains on Nitro. This gives new talent in the WCW Nitro brand a chance to grow away from the veterans and NWO mania. You eventually have Goldberg come back to the Nitro brand to be a monster among men again. Hopefully with even more training and skill this time around.
