I think Keyface is rather weak, because he can't air yeet, which is the quintessential demon power. There needs to be a tier list with demons who can air yeet, sorted by the number of times, and people air yeeted. Both consecutively and simultaneously. There are many factors to consider...

I always thought of Keyface as a physical incarnation of the prisoners anguish. While the key turning in the lock could be a symbol of freedom for the prisoners, it could also be the last thing they hear before being dragged into the execution chamber. A false sense of hope.

Javier Botet has a condition(Marfan Syndrome) that makes his limbs longer than normal and has openly spoke about it and how he sometimes hates only getting roles that make him scary/demonize his condition. Another film that covers themes of trauma and abuse that I really enjoy is called, "Omma," and also shows electricity as a link to the main character's childhood abuse and subsequent trauma. I would love to see a timeline done for that film as well or a video digging into it in some way if there's enough content to do so. I just think that film is highly underrated and deserves more attention to be honest. As for Keyface, if he wasn't described as a demon and was meant to be a prisoner, I could easily imagine him as a prisoner who was executed by way of the electric chair during a time when they were still used. In fact, I could imagine an entirely different horror movie with an electric chair-themed prisoner's spirit haunting an old prison that is re-opened and renovated as a for-profit prison or something like that.

I've said most of this before but wanted to say this on a fresh video. I'm not a massive fan of watching horror movies, but I'm fascinated by horror movies. I watch a lot of making of videos and lore videos like this. I watch a few channels that do a lot of horror content. I really like your style, very visually distinctive while avoiding overly distracting quick editing. Although your narration is swift it's also easy to follow with your well-chosen visuals. The more you show about the Insidious series the more interesting it becomes. It seems to have a lot in common with 80's style horror when the characters were less Hollywood and more relatable. Great channel, the lore and timeline videos are so addictive.

My takeaway is that Insidious-Demons are just like Supernatural-Demons (which is funny, considering the Brazilian translation of Insidious movie title IS "Sobrenatural"); you have some Demons like Sixtass/Red-Face that are pureblood (i.e. they were born in Hell and/or are Fallen Angels), and you have Demons like the Wheezing Demon and Keyface that are humans who died, got stuck in The Further and became corrupted for long enough to become pseudo-Demons, something Parker Crane, the Long-Haired Fiend and the Doll Family are likely in the process of.

Keyface also reminds me of a toxic cycle of a family. In this case, he just happens to be a demon but have been scaring, traumatizing and troubling elise's father for quite some time that it could've been a factor to why her father was so abuse to her as well. While there is no excuse to what her father did, it does explain a lot. Hurt people, hurt people. When keyface killed elise's father finally, he killed the only thing that scares elise. As someone who grew up and surviving parental abuse, when people ask me, "what is your worst fear?" it would always be related to my abusive relationship with a parental figure of mine. The environment of his father could also be a major factor why he was so abusive. Besides the demon that was troubling them, being near or in a prison area could affect anyone's mental state. He was abusive but seeing these factors explains why he was. It's a possibility that he was just a horrible human being but given the fact he tried to save elise from the demon proves he still has good in him. People might argue that a good redemption arc was needed for him but in reality, not alot of bad people changes into someone good. Most times, in reality, in a situation where parents were abusive or in any case, there's no redemption arc and that is what makes it even more sad.

A “key” isn’t necessarily a small piece of metal crafted to fit the wards of a particular lock, and “Face” doesn’t only refer to the anterior part of the cranium from the forehead to the chin. When you’re analyzing a story about demons, you have to remember that demons use words deceptively just like their father, the devil.

I still see redface as being a creation of keyface's. Redface has the same M.O. as keyface, but lacking the part where keyface continues to work to make the souls corrupted instead of tormented, whether they are living or dead. The only true victim of Keyface who we know was under his influence BOTH in life and in death was elise's father. When Elise ends up being able to free her father from keyface, we see his soul just kinda thanos snap which makes me think that was never elise's father's soul, but only an illusion cast by keyface. Which begs the question of where is elise's father? He most certainly was taken by keyface into the further when he died but what becomes of his soul? Oddly enough, it seems that the redface demon has the EXACT same M.O. not as keyface, but the same as keyface's living victims (the males who keep people chained up in their lair). Moreover, the only two beings in the series i can find to have COMPLETELY pitch black silhouettes are 1) the red face demon (thinking about 1 where he's pointing to dalton in the bed) and 2) Elise's father's coat during the scene where elise is in her old bedroom in the dark by herself investigating the house.....maybe i'm being dumb cause I haven't seen 5 yet but seems to me like I know who the redface demon is and why it hates elise so much.

I really liked this movie. The focus on Elise, who is my favorite part of the series, and the creepy prison setting. The issue of dealing with childhood trauma and the twist of live victims. It felt like a Criminal Minds episode (especially with Josh Stewart's presence) that fitted pretty neatly into the supernatural horror.

Hi CZ. Good video and I love the analysis of KeyFace's history. But I think you forgot to address KeyFace's alternate fate in the alternate ending to Insidious: The Last Key, found on the Blu-ray edition like you mentioned about in the later part of the video. In the alternate ending, KeyFace essentially reappears after Elise's mom thrusts him into the dark, and Elise uses her father's cane to stab KeyFace in the throat, causing him to explode into keys. However, it is okay if you didn't include it in the video, just wondering shy it wasn't included, if you were aware of that version of the ending.

I kinda see the time travel aspect as a sorta "Chrono / Time Lock" put in place by a universal force that sorta protects the timeline. Something primordial / before time level. Kinda like how in the Doctor Who franchise, The Doctor can be in an event multiple times, multiple versions of themself, but all the previous versions forget about it until the last version of themselves goes through the event. Thus, keeping that event stable and preventing each future version from basically trying to change it. You kinda see that with many versions of this type of time travel. Otherwise, the timeline then goes into a different version of itself.

It seems like a lot of the characters are related to abuse and it’s cycle. The Black Bride was a victim of child abuse. Keyface took hold of an abuser and was just as violent to him, and used Elise’s trauma against her. Red Face also preys on children, which lines up with the theme less directly. The Man Who Can’t Breath also offers false parental nurturing.

I think the electric shocks from keyface's fingers are meant to symbolize the electric chair in the prison Elise's father worked at.

This might be really late but when she said “he’s a former prisoner” she wasn’t talking about the Prison the father works at, to me at least I believe she was implying KeyFace was one of the first people to be thrown in a jail cell and locked away with a key. His soul to angry to fully pass on so he gets stuck in the darkness, consumed and corrupted , he now makes others suffer his fate of being locked in a cell

Maybe a human who died and went to the further can become a demon by the actions they take eg if they want to torment their killers. Same way Elise's mom becomes basically an angel

@@kennynguyen3451 yeah and I would call that a demon in casual speak just like the directors did with the man who can't breathe and keyface

Have you ever considered doing all the FANF lore? My son is obsessed with it but I think you could do it 238746287364238 times more justice! I’d love to see it from CZs world!!,

So, would you look into the lore of Sinister being as they may do a crossover between Insidious and Sinister?

Here's find for thought could saw somehow be connected with IT? Both are presented as clowning in appearance aka Billy from saw and pannywise from it,both play twisted games with their victims, both are satisfied by the pain and suffering of others.
