How to teach the grammar topics of PARTICIPLE ADJECTIVES, commonly referred to as -ed and -ing adjectives.
Find this video's companion resources at www.insightstoEnglish.com, including printouts, presentation materials, and further tips and tricks.
There are 2 types of Participle Adjectives: Active and Passive
ACTIVE ADJECTIVES use the present participle form (they end with 'ing') and express that the connected noun causes the related action. Remember that progressive or continuous tenses also are active and also have verbs that end with 'ing'.
PASSIVE ADJECTIVES use the past participle form (they usually end with 'ed') and express that the connected noun is affected by the related action. Remember that perfect tenses can also focus on results and also have verbs that end with 'ed' (unless they are irregular verbs).
Passive Adjectives can express the same things as the Passive Voice structure and in the same way.

Is it like 'achievement' in some way?

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by that. The '-ment' suffix turns verbs into nouns, but you can do the adjective form with 'achieved'. Or did you mean something different?

Insights to English From the "cause" to the " effect", this process makes me think of "achievement".

That's similar, but it's not a perfect fit, since the active 'cause' isn't completed yet, and the 'effect' is passive, which means the linked noun didn't actively earn the adjective. Achievement is better expressed through suffixes like '-ous' or '-ive', or maybe even '-ful', which are active (unlike '-ed') and demonstrate either tendencies or accomplishments (unlike '-ing', which is in-progress and only momentary).

Insights to English So the passive voice represents a completed change, while the active voice is to tell how does someone feel at that moment?
