The chinese ship leaves every day How do we convert the above sentence to passive voice?
@chemistry-experiments78 Жыл бұрын
@@thv.hhb16 I think we can't convert it.. We deal with the intransitive verb. /Ship leaves/ The verb has no object. But maybe I'm wrong, as I'm not a native speaker.
@readImperivm Жыл бұрын
I got it, in relation to the transitive and intransitive verbs. They both (the transitive and passive voice) need an object because in the passive voice the action falls into the object, am I right? I love you and I love your videos. 🥰

Your video is very well done. I would add the following: Passive Voice occurs when the active sentence contains a TRANSITIVE VERBS, these verbs admit OBJECTS. Ex: I gave alms to the beggar. While in sentences with INTRANSITIVE VERBS you cannot put the sentence into passive voice. Example: Birds fly.

There's an error @4:11 - It should be "A million pounds was donated", not "were donated". Specific values of money/currency are an exception when it comes to verb agreement, and are always treated as singular. You can use the plural verb if the amount is vague/non-specific, such as "Millions of pounds were donated".
