Kate Bush - The Man with the Child in His Eyes | Reaction! (Dreamy)

It's been over a year since I last reacted to the Queen. I should be arrested for that. Either way, this is a hypnotic and beautiful tune. It's simplistic in a way, even down to its fuzzy, dreamlike music video. I can't believe Kate wrote these lyrics when she was just 13. Ah, I love her a lot.

Hi and thanks for a very enjoyable reaction video. This really is quite a song. When Jimmy Page spoke Kate Bush and what he called her genius, this song formed a significant part of what he referred to as proof of that genius. When Dusty Springfield covered this song she said that when she first heard it she was staggered by Kate Bush's talent. And written by a 13 year old it is an astonishing song - but then it is the incomparable Kate Bush. I am an old man and have been a KB fan since right from the beginning and even now after all of these years this song still seems utterly impossible to have been written when it was, and her voice can still move my old soul more often than any other singer ever has. I do think that you would really enjoy the Kate Bush a capella song, her unbearably beautiful version of the old traditional song "My Lagan Love" which was released as a 'B' side to "Cloudbusting" and it sounds like a visit by a being from another world. This was one of three songs that David Gilmour had professionally mastered. He paid out of his own pocket for the studio time and all of musicians. Two songs from that recording session made it onto Kate's debut album, "The Kick Inside," which sold a million copies in the UK. The other song is "The Saxophone Song." Gilmour thinks that "The Man With The Child In His Eyes" was the song that convinced EMI to sign up Kate. BTW the song did result in Kate winning an award for outstanding British lyric. Regarding "Wuthering Heights" Kate was singing as Cathy, a very key character from the book. Kate does tend to sing as other characters quite often.

First draft written when she was 13 years old! Genius personified. I love her. ❤ Just for the record my own thoughts on the story are that of a young girl's unreciprocated secret crush on an older man. I believe that at times Kate's childhood home was pretty much open house to many family friends and can well imagine Kate listening fascinated by the tales that some of them told. With her interest in older men it's not difficult to imagine her developing a crush on one of these - one with a playful twinkle in his eyes, maybe.

There are so many of Kate’s songs to recommend but something similar in this vein I would suggest Moments of Pleasure from the Red Shoes…simple piano and voice with strings, talking about people she has lost

It doesn't surprise me that Kate wrote this at such a tender age of 13. It may surprise (or even perturb some) that we do at that age dream and fantasize about older men (more than boys) I know I did. It makes some a bit uncomfortable I think, and I'm wondering if that was her anxiety in part of the Song's lyrics maybe? ('I'm worried about my love') Who knows... Great classic! It was only her second hit after 'Wuthering'. but It only made No. 6 for three weeks I think, and did not do quite as well, and I often wonder if maybe it was the subject matter of the Song? I have a controversial interpretation of this song. I think it is a metaphor for something that I'll explain shortly. Firstly, though, I suggest that artists do not always tell the truth about their own art, not if that truth risks losing fans. Probably record labels and management put pressure on artists not to tell the truth in such situations. I also suspect that Kate Bush is not straightforwardly female, but rather some sort of nonbinary or even intersex individual. No disrespect to Kate, but I think that the video, with its soft focus, hair and makeup was intended to create a fictional ideal of an attractive female and many a young heterosexual lad has been fooled! So, I think that the "man" in the song is a metaphor for Kate's own masculine side, which has become somewhat dissociated in Kate's mind, like a man who is always with her when she closes her eyes in bed at night. I could be completely wrong, admittedly! However, I have seen a wide range of clips and songs from Kate and there are certain common themes all pointing subtly in this direction. You might like to react to Kate's 1979 Xmas Special performance of her song "Egypt". It will show you another side to Kate, one that is outrageously avant-garde, in a hardcore "campy" sort of way! It also makes for a very amusing reaction video! Be sure to react to that specific performance though, as the song itself is nothing special.
