This needs to be a Unix screensaver~live wallpaper Generative synth patch that makes oscilloscope art from a data source (can be /dev/urandom, a geiger counter, the stock market, the weather, or some mix of them), you both hear and see it

This feels like a spot on representation of my sleep paralysis when it's not scary and just purely physical and auditory

There are emotions attached to parts of this video that I think I've only ever felt while dreaming
@thejestern2 ай бұрын
Wow never had sleep paralysis… how can it not be scary? I can imagine it being quite shocking at least
@botman72 ай бұрын
@thejestern it mostly feels like vibrations pulsing through your body, accompanied by strange barely conscious thoughts that only barely make sense. I felt like the light and the ringing in this video would be some sort of grounding thought that brought me comfort as it repeatedly leaves and returns. When the sphere switched to being made of non uniform lines it felt like the equivalent of dropping into a different level of paralysis, the vibrations become more intense and more of a full body experience than just a sensation. While I was watching I felt like if I were in paralysis I would think I broke the sphere somehow and would want to go back to when it was smooth but wouldn't be able to understand how to make it happen, I would just be along for the ride, and it would take me a few moments to accept that and then enjoy it. When the lighter part of the visual returned again at the end it was like a happy ending, comforting thoughts would return as I slowly wake and actually begin to miss the sensations as they fade. This is all so hard to explain I wish it wasn't all so vague. Point is, your video was a full experience for me, with a story and conflict and resolution and everything, loved every second of it.

@@botman7 wow that sounds really intense, and actually you described it quite vividly. it must be really terrifying at first when you don't know it. I'm happy you enjoy the video and that it somehow creates a good feeling after all. This is what is wonderful about art: everyone can find him/herself in it and take a pesonal interpretation. Thanks for writing all this. Makes me feel useful somehow....

You've stumbled onto something quite wonderful. I need to find you the right kind of crystal capacitor to pump the signal through instead of an oscilloscope...

Hi thanks! I used an oscilloscope and a laser. I project them both on a wall and shoot them. The movement of the laser and oscilloscope is controlled by sound that you hear in the video. You can check more of my work at www.jestern.com. Hope you enjoy!

TL:DR ugly sounds look rlly pretty
@thejestern2 жыл бұрын
Thanks the sound is like this on purpose it's the two signals that create the image. Even if hard and harsh I like to keep it's unity.

An oscilloscope is a sound visualization device, and OP says his is an old one. He had to design the sound to make the visuals!
@thejestern2 жыл бұрын
ahahaha sure I can imagine. The sound is the exact signal that creates the image, I like to keep its coherence even if it's harsh. Sometimes the most beautiful things come from really ugly ones. Like jack fruit has a terrible smell but its very tasty...
