Whenever I see young Norm, I'm reminded of what a legitimately good looking guy he was (no Diddy) and how much he suffered from his first cancer diagnosis at age 19. He never looked bad, but you can see what decades of fighting did to his body (while he kept his health to himself - making only one joke towards the end, "if cancer kills you, you've tied, you didn't lose.") while his spirit never changed. You can see the spark in his eyes until the end, but you can also see how the fight took its toll on his body.

Hearing Phil Hartman's name makes me sad - in case you don't know the name Maddy - he was a really talented comedian / actor from the same era as Norm - similar style of humor (he was Canadian also) - but he had a tragic end to his life in the prime of his career - his wife was suffering mental health problems and killed him in a fit of anger. He had the same innate comedic instincts that made Norm so funny. I've never looked into any KZbin videos on Hartman's career - so i don't know if any compilations even exist - but he's somebody worth remembering. Thanks for your reaction to this one - I always enjoy them.

Some of Norms jokes are based on old jokes that were around in the early 1900's. My grandfather told me some of them back in the 70's. Norm was a master of telling them but they aren't completely new.

Norm's last appearance on the David Letterman show is a very funny but very emotional one. At some point you'll want to see it. Dave was retiring and Norm and Dave were very close. It's made more poignant, because we now know Norm was very sick, but never told anyone. He let's out a lot of emotion with Dave.
