Insta360 X4 Audio Comparisons With Different Microphones

In this video, we are doing some audio comparisons of the new Insta360 X4 in different configurations with different microphones. There are audio samples using the built-in microphones of the Insta360 X4, the DJI Mic 2 transmitter connected via Bluetooth and hard-wired as well. There are also some audio samples using the Rode Wireless Pro. Insta 360 sells a mount that allows you to mount your wireless microphone reviewer and have it remain invisible when filming in 360 mode.

Question not exactly on point but I’ll bet you can answer: I’m considering getting the insta360 x4 mic adapter you use in this video, but primarily as a 90 degree angle and door replacement to usb power the x4 while on long motorcycle rides. My question: If I use the mic adapter but no external mic, can I still get audio from the built in mics or does the adapter negate that? Thanks for the help.

I was planning to get the dji mic for the Bluetooth connection feature but after hearing the audio quality of that, I don’t think I want it anymore. Helpful video thx

I have the DJI Mic 2 via bluetooth wireless for my X4 and Ace Pro, for bluetooth, the quality is actually quite good, it's never going to be as good as hardwire but I wanted less bulk and nothing protruding out of my camera. I use my Ace Pro with dive housing on quite a bit so the wireless option is a godsend. If you want to still use the wireless option, and get good quality mic, use the internal recording and post sync, this way you'll get the 32 bit float audio, a bit more work but keeps my camera 'clean' ;)

What about connection with bluetooth headset for phone? Many have price from 10$ and mic inside

Recording onboard using the built Mic's sounded fine, as long as don't have much wind or background noise. And I do want to point out that when using the DJI Mic 2, if your worried about range or sound quality, just record internally to the Mic in 32 bit float, you have plenty of headroom to adjust the sound in post, and range or interference is no longer an issue. Do you think that having the Insta360 with the receiver while riding a motorbike could cause the wire to appear in the recording? I assume the receiver can't move, but I noticed the wire is very close to the 180º angle of the lens.

Is that cold shoe secure for the receiver? I can't find a good one for my X4 and DJI Mic 2

Rode FTW. Dji mic sounds much worse (which surprised me a bit).

Hi, I thought the audio using the inbuilt mic was pretty decent, how far were you from the camera there, hard to guess the length of the pole from the picture?

Other than background noise it's really good for the disturbance

Built-in microphone with wind muffs works great. Even better than the sound of the DJI Mic imho (comparing the intro).

Yeah but you need the Insta360 foam wind muffs attached to the camera. Otherwise it sounds crap with wind.
